Oozing confidence, Otley took revenge for last season’s two SSE National League Two North defeats by Huddersfield in style with six exhilarating tries, although they did leak four to allow their opponents a bonus point.
The hosts made an early start, fly half Ben Cooper landing a penalty but they felt the strength of the opposition pack when, from a five-metre line-out, they were driven back, hooker James Davies diving over for scrum half Joel Davies to convert.
Chasing the re-start, No 8 Dan Temm secured the ball to race into the corner, and three minutes later winger James Twomey came inside, beat the first tackle and make short work of the remaining 50 metres, Cooper converting.
The pace continued and the visitors replied, winger Elliott Jones going over at the corner only for the Otley forwards to display their ability, a rolling maul setting up a try for hooker Ben Steele.
Full back Chris Gemmell was over twice only to be recalled, and six minutes into the second half the lead was reduced to a single point when prop Anthony Stringwell benefited from a wild Otley pass to score, Hinchliffe converting.
Cooper and fly half Thomas Owen then exchanged penalties before Otley really came on strong.
A long clearing kick was fielded by Twomey and passed to Gemmell, who drew the chasers before returning to the winger, who legged it fully 75 metres to the posts, Temm then scoring his second with a scintillating run, both tries being converted.
Replacement Michael Coady , with his first touch of the ball, glided through before handing on to Toby Williams, who finished off in style.
No 8 Nicholas Sharpe grounded for a pushover try for Huddersfield on 73 minutes but Cooper added an 80th-minute penalty.
