Phil Parkinson warns Bradford City fans and players not to expect another goalrush against Wimbledon

Phil Parkinson does not expect AFC Wimbledon’s defence to crumble again as they did against Burton in midweek Phil Parkinson does not expect AFC Wimbledon’s defence to crumble again as they did against Burton in midweek

City will be told to forget AFC Wimbledon’s six-goal spanking as they chase a winning double at Valley Parade tomorrow.

Phil Parkinson’s men aim to build on the midweek victory over Fleetwood with three more home points against a side still reeling from losing 6-2 at Burton.

Given City’s tough run of fixtures to kick off the campaign, the south Londoners appear the easiest pickings – especially after suffering their heaviest defeat since joining the league.

But Parkinson stressed that will not be the view in the City dressing room.

The Bantams chief said: “That’s not the way I look at it at all. Wimbledon beat Chesterfield in the first game and their manager and board will be expecting them to build on last year and mount a challenge on the top seven.

“Like many managers and teams, everybody has got a lot of optimism at this stage of the season.

“For any supporter or player of Bradford to think for one second that they aren’t going be as strong as Fleetwood, who’ve just come up, would be very naive.”

Early form can be a minefield, with the opening week always liable to throw up strange results. Parkinson will certainly not focus too much on one freak scoreline.

He said: “It’s always dangerous to read too much into the first few games. I feel this is a division where a team which is not expected to do well can get up there.

“Wimbledon are a team who’ve been together a long while and have a good spirit, which can take you a long way in this league. You can’t write any team off.

“There’s not a great deal between the top teams and the bottom ones, as we showed last year.

“It’s not like the Premier League where there are big games because of the resources the top clubs have got. In this division, the playing field is not as unbalanced.”

Wombles boss Terry Brown vented his fury by hauling his side back in for extra training on their day off. Parkinson will have eyed their defensive shortcomings closely but expects a strong response.

He said: “Of course there are areas that Burton exploited in Wimbledon’s back four. They had a really bad 45 minutes and you can’t hide away from the fact they conceded four quick goals.

“But we also know that we played Wimbledon three times last year and we had three very tough games. This one will be exactly the same.

“I think we will have to be on it just as much as Tuesday, possibly more, if we’re going to get the three points.”

It is four years since City last began their league campaign with successive home wins but confidence is high among fans.

Parkinson will assess the “bumps and bruises” from the Fleetwood win but it would be a surprise to see too many changes.

“We want to be positive at home when the situation allows you to be and we’ll do that again tomorrow,” he said.

“Whoever puts the shirt on, that’s the way we want to play and we know when we do that, we get the response from the supporters.

“We’re going out to win again and we will remind the players about what we did well on Tuesday and what we need to reproduce.

“There were a lot of good signs for us. It was a really competitive game and I’m expecting another one against Wimbledon.”

City are confident of avoiding a repeat of the queues outside the ground on Tuesday. Fans with flexicards will now be able to use any turnstile to go in.

The club will also reopen the original ticket office next to the old club shop for supporters to pick up season-tickets or flexicards.

We will beat wimbledon.
Theres no team in lge2 I fear we cant compete with.
If we play with the same physical presence and use our wide players to maximum, no team will relish our attacking threat.
Get behind the players tomorrow, this is our season

I really hate it when we face a team that is coming off the back of a drubbing, that is the worst time to play any team. Normally I would expect us to get 3 points, but I now expect a score draw. I was right in saying we would win our last game by a goal, I hope I am wrong for this one.

We have the players to do one over them, but how often do we see a club lose by a large margin, let in half a dozen goals to win their next one or at worst draw? And the opposite, if someone has a big win struggle in their next game.

Let's pray they see coming to VP a little bit daunting and let's hope 10k fans will be on their backs reminding them of their failure in their previous game and now coming to their biggest opponents.

Score draw tomorrow, 2-2 but failing that we will win 2-0.

I don't disagree with you there Shaun, Wimbledon I see them struggling and fancy them for the drop also.

We don't need to be concerned about our opponents especially at home, gilingham where flattered last Saturday freak first goal dodge pen and keeper should have saved third. Tue was a great result against a team that will be well up there with us, a game we would have lost by half time last season. Play like we did against fleetwood and we will be ok.

The psychology of Shaun shines through. Clearly un-nerved that City have won two of their first three games; Shaun is concerned that his "deadbeat" mantra is looking increasingly dubious. Another win tomorrow would be catastrophic for Shaun so he has tried to belittle a positive result in advance. Nice work Shaun.

Not sure a) why they would be your tip for the drop or b) why that means that City or an other team should dispatch them with ease. Such a view doesn't indicate a great knowledge of the game. Wouldn't Manyoo expect to dispatch Everton with ease?

We are in the same division as Wombles for a good reason and any team who treats another team with such a disrespectful outlook can expect to lose. Thankfully PP isn't making the same error as Shaun.

What, like your claim that Fleetwood will struggle this season. Is it just teams we play against that you expect to be poor? Is that so if we fail to win, you have a ready made reason to have a pop?

He must have some very strange powers to draw you all in. Just forget about him and his sidekick Correctness and stick to being possitive and get behind PP and the lads.

I don't know who he is. I know he does go to games that's all, but think the bash Shaun brigade are a bit OTT.

Correctness is an out and out loser. Saun isnt. When he started on "deadbeat" last year he was criticised. By the end of the year half of the posters agreed with him.

He's wound his neck in this season. I think even he can see that the signings on paper are , or must be, better than most other teams.

When we win and play well he acknowledges that.

If we aren't doing well he will be back with the Deadbeat posts. And who could disagree. Increased budget. Great players. He'd have a point.

Jeez Shaun!, your getting more publicity than a naked Royal.

Right then, you reckon Wimbledon will come bottom of league two and that Fleetwood will be in the bottom 5 -from an earlier motivational post you provided- I just need your other 3 teams now and then I'll know good you are at predictions and whether or not I should sack Balbriggan as my favourite soothsayer. Are City in YOUR bottom 5 by any chance? or do you think we'll reach the dizzy heights of 18th again.

Won't be easy, but if we want to be up there, then these are the type of teams we have got to be beating at home, no excuses. It is the type of fixture we have struggled in though, which is non more evidenced by the fact that we haven't beaten Accrington at home, since we returned to this division.

Let's get at them straight from the off, not giving them any time to settle, and restore their fragile confidence.

Shaun from Richmond--likes to provoke controversy. He deliberately makes his controversial sound bites. To incite those who wish to comment on these boards. I am surprised, that our very sensible commentators, continue to bite on his rhetoric. His use of capital letters should cause a certain person to comment,in his derisive manner. Shaun has never made any sensible, constructiv
e comment for many seasons. It is time to ignore his sarcastic upper case poor statements. Perhaps, he will then refrain from deliberately provoking his controversy on Bradford City etc.

Let me disect it for you. Firstly, Shaun hasn't only just started his "deadbeat" mockings. He did it with McCall, Taylor and now PP. The only reason Jacko got off was because he quit before Shaun could go after him.

Secondly, how is "..... are poor and will finish bottom/near the bottom, so we should have won and more comfortably" deemed as praise????

Finally, this isn't a 'bash Shaun' exercise. We have all posted some negative posts, but most of his are that way. Even following a win, he still tries to mock the performance and that is the difference between him and the majority of us.

What a waste of 5mins of your time. The above post was woeful and inaccurate. You shouldn't have bothered. Keep to posting on what you know about and stop defending the WUM. Your posts will be better for it, LOL
