Reinstated Wilsden face holders Embsay in Cowling Cup final
Wilsden have been reinstated in the Mewies Solicitors Craven League's Cowling Cup.
They were defeated in the semi-final by Chatburn Seconds, but it has since been discovered that the winners had fielded an ineligible player.
Chatburn were thrown out of the event by the league's executive committee and Wilsden will now face holders Embsay Seconds in Sunday's final at Denholme (1.30).
Wilsden joined the league in 2004 and their second team reached the final in 2009 – again after being reinstated- where they lost to Crossflatts Seconds at Cowling.
They are currently riding high at the top of Division Four, five points clear of Bradford & Bingley Thirds.
The side is led by Rob Greenwood, who incidentally was in charge the last time they appeared in the final.
He is one of a good five-man attack, with three of them all-rounders - Greenwood, Shahid Mohammed and Muddaser Kiyani. The other two are Matthew Bailey and Ben Jagger.
The batting stars are Alex Jowett, John Greenwood and Ben Whitfield and the three all-rounders.
Embsay II, back in their comfort zone of Division Three, are in fourth spot, just four points behind Barrowford II, whom they beat in the opening round.
They have figured in 21 finals, winning 14 of them, including a record-breaking five times in succession from 1991-95. Last year they beat the now defunct Little Marsden at Cowling.
They are led by Simon Holt, who is making an 11th appearance in the final.
The batting revolves around Neville Allan, Morgan Davies, Brian Hodgson and Joe Holt, fresh from his 165 at Cullingworth II.
Jonathan Coward is their all-rounder, along with his skipper and Joe Holt.
While the formidable John Metcalfe leads the attack, Paul Wormald and Allan are also available to bowl.
Mention should be also be made of veteran Alan Robinson, who is also appearing in his 11th Cowling Cup final.
The league are breaking new ground this year by taking the match to Denholme CC.
The match is sponsored by Jonathan Smith of JMS Ltd.
The two sides have never met in the competition.
