Hardship fund for Bradford Bulls staff reaches £15,000

Paul Butterworth has been collecting hardship funds at Odsal stadium
A hardship fund set up to offer financial help to coaching and backroom staff made redundant when struggling Bradford Bulls entered administration has so far collected more than £15,000.
Supporters’ trust BullBuilder announced yesterday it had hit the milestone after a bucket collection of £3,600 at last Sunday’s Super League home win against Widnes.
The fund’s total includes cash from rival sides Warrington Wolves and Leeds Rhinos, which offered to donate their share of the Bulls’ advanced ticket sales from away matches earlier this season.
So far, £9,000 from the fund has been paid out to members of staff struggling to survive with no pay after volunteering to work for free. BullBuilder chairman Chris Hardstaff said: “The support we have received has been overwhelming.
“Once again the rugby league community has made us proud to support the greatest game.
“Not only would I like to thank the Bradford public who have dug deep once again, but also special thanks must go to the Warrington club for their generous donation and the Widnes fans who also contributed on Sunday.
“It goes to show the strength of feeling towards the Bulls and the fund will go to assist those who are working hard to keep the club alive.”
The fund, administered by the club’s pastor Warren Evans, was set up in July after administrator Brendan Guilfoyle laid off 15 full-time staff, including the entire coaching team, in a cost-cutting exercise.
BullBuilder spokesman Mike Farren said that they were concerned to do their best to make sure that staff commitment to the Bulls’ cause would not lead to financial hardship on their part.
Fundraising for the fund will continue this week with a raffle of Bradford Bulls prizes, including a nappy cake with baby shampoo, muslin and nappies as well as a Bulls towel and Bullboy soft toy.
Tickets are available from the Bulls ticket office and the draw will take place in the Coral Stand at Odsal after the Hull KR match on Friday.
Huddersfield Giants yesterday announced it will give cash from away ticket sales from its match against Bradford on Sunday week in a similar scheme used by Warrington to help the hardship fund.
Mr Evans said: “I’m proud to accept the offer proposed by the Huddersfield Giants and am pleasantly encouraged by the support offered to the Bulls by the wider rugby league community.”

It's an extremely great thing some people are doing here but I see no point to your comment what so ever.

Of the top of my head a match was arranged at VP to raise funds when City were in admin where players from other clubs etc gave their free time to play in the game.
When wrexham were in trouble fans from across the country travelled to a game to swell the ranks.
Bigger clubs have waived their share of cup money only taking expenses when playing against clubs in admin and serious financial trouble.
You know, clubs do look out for one another but not every club can afford to make such gestures. Many clubs are living hand to mouth themselves so it's only really those financially well off who can afford to do this.

The money from Leeds Rhinos went to the Club. The money from Warrington went to the BullBuilder hardship fund (as, I believe, will the money from Huddersfield). BullBuilder are very grateful to all three clubs for helping in different ways, but we can only really speak for the Hardship Fund. Personally, though, I would like to go on record as thanking Leeds for their help for the club now, and the generosity of their supporters when they visited Odsal earlier in the season.
Thanks go to all of them, and I also read of Garry Hetheringtons support for us, and the concept of Super League.
He is to be thanked and admired for that insight into what 16 years of SL has achieved in the UK.

It's also a testament to our generosity as a nation, when we give unstintingley to as many good and worthwhile causes as we are able.

Once again fighting with each other. There was no need to pick on football like that. If you do not have any regular conections with the sport how do you know what they do or do not donate to each other to help.

So basically what your telling me is it's our fault we didn't give the money to the hardship fund so we don't deserve a thank you?!

The Bullbuilder press release was about the Bullbuilder Hardship Fund. A separate fund that has a specific objective. What has that got to do with Leeds? You don't see the Red Cross thanking people for donating to Oxfam.

I thought a man who seems to know eveything about the current situation at the Bulls would act better than that.
