Prisoner, whether I rate Hanson or not is not the issue.
The point I was making is that Hanson showed promise but could go either way. So there was a fair amount of risk involved in offering a long contract at that time. Wells showed he was the real deal and IMO less of a risk.
Hope this is a bit clearer for you old boy.
Wells showed potential, only when more or less forced into action. Up to that point he hasn't been considered 'the real deal' at all and still isn't hence no rush to sign him up for an albatross of a deal.

Your opinion on Wells has been formed on a few months of watching and whilst he did score some very good goals and has done this with less minutes on the pitch than JH his all round contribution is 50% less of that put in by Jimmy.

After a very good first season in pro football JH was rightly offered a decent deal, he struggled in his second year, mainly due to bulking up too much and not being able to carry that weight and size around the pitch as easily, resulting in time out with a bad back and also hamstring injury, both a direct result of bulking up.
He returned after last summers lay off looking slightly more lean and certainly more hungry and aggressive. His link up play has improved whereby he isn't just flicking on but holding or laying off mainly to the left picking out Reid but due to having Wells running in behind him now we actually have the double threat.

Going forward Wells and Hanson COULD be the next big thing for us but defensively and attacking wise JH gets my nod as our most important forward. Slightly contradictory in highlighting a forwards defensive ability but it is a plus for both us and JH personally, last one we had that worked this well was Lee Mills"

Bradford City striker Nahki Wells in no rush over contract negotiations

Nahki Wells cannot wait for the Capital One Cup clash against Notts County in 11 days Nahki Wells cannot wait for the Capital One Cup clash against Notts County in 11 days

Nahki Wells insists he is totally focused on another big season with City, even though his new contract remains unsigned.

The Bermudian striker has a year to go on the deal he was given last summer.

After a bright debut campaign, City hope to tie him down with an improved long-term offer to last until 2016.

That was first mentioned at the end of last season but the club are keen not to put Wells under any pressure.

Talks are expected to pick up in due course – with Wells adamant his attention will not be distracted by any uncertainty over his future.

He said: “At the moment we haven’t agreed anything. I’m not going to go into specifics but sooner or later, something will happen.

“I’m here to the end of the season and nothing’s going to make me any less committed. I love playing for Phil (Parkinson) and Steve Parkin and I just want to do the best I can for the club.

“I’m taking it game by game. All I can do is keep playing well and scoring goals and it will fall in my favour.”

The four-year deal would strengthen City’s position regarding any future fee as well as boost Wells’ current wages. The club would still be entitled to a compensation figure should he leave next summer.

There has been no confirmed interest so far in the exciting 22-year-old, who broke into City’s side in December and finished his first full campaign in England with 12 goals.

Wells has netted in all three friendlies and is confident he can handle any added expectation.

He added: “I feel it’s different. I’m seen as an important player but I enjoy having that pressure.

"I enjoy being looked at as someone who can score goals and win games for the team. That’s what I’m trying to do.”

Alan Connell and Garry Thompson have added to the attacking mix but Wells is determined to make the starting line-up for the Capital One Cup first round in 11 days.

“When I broke in last season there were probably three or four names (up front) but now it looks like there are four or five. But my main aim is to do my work and show the gaffer I’m ready to start in the 11 against Notts County – I want to play in that and score.”
