Administrators of crisis hit club hope for new solution
7:50am Thursday 28th June 2012 in Sport
By Jo Winrow, City Hall Reporter
Odsal Stadium, home of the Bulls
Administrators battling to save Bradford Bulls from liquidation have been left disappointed after the only expression of interest in taking on the crisis-torn club has now been withdrawn.
The Telegraph & Argus reported yesterday how the rugby league club had finally admitted defeat over its bid to raise the funds needed to pay a huge tax bill. It was put into administration earlier this week with a deadline of ten working days given for a buyer to come forward to avoid liquidation.
Brendan Guilfoyle, who has been appointed joint administrator, told the T&A that he had taken a call from an interested party on Tuesday night. But yesterday he admitted that they were now back to square one.
He said: “I had an unsolicited expression of interest and then it was withdrawn. It’s disappointing, but we hope others will come forward.
“For the moment we are looking to stabilise things within the club, and then next week we may have to go knocking on a few doors.”
He said he was still hopeful that a solution could be found that would keep the club alive within the deadline and dismissed speculation that the Bulls would be able to finish the season as a new company even if the club goes into liquidation.
“This is a loss-making business,” he said. “As things currently stand, the club loses £100,000 a month.
“How is a supporters’ trust supposed to come up with that kind of money to take over the club straightaway?”
He reiterated that without a buyer coming forward by the end of next week, they did not have enough money in the bank to pay the players’ wages, a bill of around £260,000 a month. In addition the debts include a £250,000 VAT bill, and around £200,000 due in PAYE.
The boss of a catering firm which has been providing corporate hospitality at Odsal Stadium has also told the T&A that he is owed around £20,000 by the club for work which goes back to March. Trevor Landsdall, of County Caterers Special Events, said it had been continuing to provide pink champagne, canapes and a choice menu during home games and special dinners, but had insisted on being paid up front.
“We are still owed around £20,000 from earlier though,” he said. “It will hit us quite hard if we don’t get paid.
“We have had to stand staff wages and pay our suppliers.”
The company, which is based in Wakefield, has previously lost out when Wakefield Trinity Wildcats and Bradford City Football Club went into administration.
In addition the Bulls’ cheerleaders have not been paid. Robyn Morrison, who runs Panache, the cheerschool which trains the Bullettes, said the 12 girls had previously performed at five or six home games without pay before reluctantly deciding to take on an alternative paying job the day of the recent Wakefield Trinity clash.
“It’s not just about the money for us,” she said. “We’ve been helping to raise funds for the club and it would be devastating for the Bullettes if the club were to go into liquidation.”
Meanwhile the All Party Parliamentary Rugby League Group yesterday pledged its support.
Chairman of the Parliamentary Group, Leeds North West MP Greg Mulholland, said: “This is a sad day. We urge all involved to find a way for Bradford to continue its proud history as a top-flight club.
“Members of the Parliamentary Rugby League Group are fans of the game as well as club representatives in Parliament and we have a singular remit – ‘to support the sport of rugby league football’. The Group's offer of support to the club, the RFL and Bradford City Council remains open.”

The Club has too many back room staff that are on development in schools etc. YOu only have to take a look into the club shop. What once brought in £1million plus per season has been reduced to a pittance because the quality of the goods on sale are utter tripe.

Business people will only put money where there is profit to be made and a minimal risk of loss.
The club has no assets, makes no profit and has generated a £1.7million of debt, which even if cleared would quickly start to accrue again.
I don't see a cat in hells chance of the club being saved out of saving it for saving sake, and the bigger picture shows that the ground currently has little else going for it.
If at least the ground had a regular income from such as stock cars or speedway, then at least it would have had other income other than the odd event such as the monster truck/firework bash.

As for the comment re Ken Morrison, he won't put money into sport cos he's a tight s*d end of and he would rather line his own pockets than save a legacy of Bradford up yours then Ken; back to Asda for moi for my shopping. The staff is cut to the bone.
You are also wrong about the Foundation as it is run as a charity and therefore is not a drain on the club's resources, just the opposite in fact the charity enhances our club, and serves as a massive benefit to the youngsters (they used to be the life blood of the sport, remember> small adults who make a lot of noice!) in the city.
You are right about the first cheerleaders of the club. But times evolve and I have seen the merit in both. The new "Bullettes" have put the Bulls on the map by winning countless competitions.
You are right about the shop takings though and lack of staff, not too many as you say, has caused this problem, plus a lot more goes through the internet than previously.
So there you have it my friend.
Hope that answers a lot of the questions you and others might have.

Bulls have given loafs to super league and yea, are in the crap at the moment, but do they really deserve to be treated in the way you suggest?Wakey went through and recovered, don't see you having a pop at them, and im sure Widnes have gone into admin twice in the past, but i guess we disregard tht bbecause they haven't won anything aand are not the bulls.
This whole scenario shows yet again that the Super League licensing system is biased and flawed.Bradford's accounts were clearly not checked by the RFL and when you see how a well run club like Halfax time and again have been excluded from the SL party it shows how corrupt and unfair the system is.Bring back relegation and relegate the Bulls. In fact get rid of Harlequins too and bring Halifax and Featherstone into the Super League.I have a lot of sympathy with Bulls fans but not the club itself. It has been run like a dodgy corner shop for years and it is the fans who suffer. It's time to relegate the Bulls if they survive liquidation and give SL and RL some fairness and credibility.
As for Broncos, sky owners won't allow them to be pulled from the league as they want some sort of representative from London in the league for their money, so they will be ever present despite not giving anything to the league at all. I have it on good authority that the Broncos have had a crowd as low as 300 this season. But we can overlook that eh! A joke.
Lastly, many other super league teams are also struggling massively and it may not be too long before the likes of Cas, Salford, wakey again, r also in a similar situation. Do you suggest getting rid of them too, and btinging other teams in? Teams coming in such as fax etc would struggle equally as bad as there is no money in super league, and the fanbase just isn't there for such clubs. Getting rid of teams, relegation etc, is not what is needed. There needs to be a more viable solution or this will continue to happen to clubs down the line. To be honest, the way the sport is in this country, I don't see a solution and worry about the state of the sport and what is to come!

Yes Steam Pigs that is true and that is because the game and the rules are bent and as said earlier "Crooked". I don't support Fax but a 15 years ago they were a big club who lost most their support due to having no promotion relegation and a bent licensing procedure.I take it you support Bulls? Well in other sports like Union or football the rules for going into admin are - 10 or even -25 points and worse in the Glasgow Rangers situation. As there is no relegation in SL then that punishment means nothing so let's see if Bulls get relegated or bust will you be laughing then/ If one club goes bust then SL has to replace that club and Halifax would almost certainly be that club unless they chose an expansion club which I doubt.

Its incredulous that the Bradford went from being 'the hub' of world speedway to where we are now. A whole generation and more of Bratfudians simply have no idea what the sport is ?. The history at Odsal is one of speedways richests in terms of characters and yes the track of the 80's and 90's was world renowned.

But history and tradition and giving the real people of the area what they want matters to those in Council bogged down as they are in their social intergration project and the economic mire.
I went over to Scunthorpe earlier this week to watch speedway. Now here is a council who cares about the things that matter. So much so that they ( the Council ) donated to the land to the Speedway for a peppercorn rent and a fantastic facility has grown up there. Basic facilities yes but a great little race track. I say to the Council give me a piece of land on the edge of the city ( maybe up by the M62 ) and I will bring speedway back to Bradford. But there needs to be the will to make it happen and those supposedly running Bradford dont have the will or the wherewithall and that pretty clear to see.

Halifax in SL....... that has right cheered me up.... keep dreaming fax fans, one day you may realise that the RFL don't want you at the top table!!!! As there is no relegation in SL then that punishment means nothing so let's see if Bulls get relegated or bust will you be laughing then/ If one club goes bust then SL has to replace that club and Halifax would almost certainly be that club unless they chose an expansion club which I doubt.
how much would you like to bet on the Fax being in SL this year or next???? come on loud mouths put yer money wer your gobs are.......!

How was it attacking headingley? Were you going to go report me for bullying to say the state of the pitch from Union ground sharing was shocking?
I know what Odsal is like been going there since before 1989.
There has been ongoing talk about renovating Odsal since that time from falling through to supermarkets objecting to Prescott objecting all have failed.
Having played on Headingley I know how lush the surface used to be and yes the whole ground needs modernising, but with the bumper crowds Leeds get and the other revenue from union even they don't seem to have the funds to upgrade the stadium.
Hence back to my point mergers are going to be the inevitable end of all this as happened in Sydney, Huddersfield have the ground but not the crowds, Bradford have the crowds not the ground. Wakefield will have the ground but not the crowds cas no ground and not big enough crowds etc

Come on council --call in some investors --you have the power to do this --get the team some cash , move them from Odsal to valey Parade short term until the new ground is ready with a speedway track & conference centre that brings in some extra income--& what about some area with it that support some small business units .

What is needed is an investor who has the vision and financial clout to unify all these sporting activities in a state of the art stadium which would encourage more families to get interested and bring added revenue through corporate sponsorship and tickets with incentives if supporters have interests in more than one sport.

Halifax get my vote, then maybe some of the bull supporters living in 'fax may start to support their local team instead of being a "glory hunter", not that there's much glory down at the hole anymore.

Sorry, I must of been going to a different ground these past few years?!
Brand new Carnegie stand with outstanding facilities.
SouthStand yes, isn't in the best state although I'd rather have the SS over your "popular terrace"
Western Terrace if it had a roof would be just as good as the SS.
North Stand needs updating BUT it's not falling down, it's perfectly safe and again is better than both your "popular & rooley end"
To call Headingley "a heap" is quite frankly laughable.
Are you bitter?

Shelfrhino wrote:It is you who is the deluded one, self funded??, so Caddick isn't the one with all the money then, and you call our ground a hole!!. Even your own supporters think your ground is a heap. As I said, if Caddick wasn't there then you lot would be up the preverbial creek without a paddle, so don't come on here thinking that they are self funding. If it was'nt for the bulls, then who do you think are going to supliment your attendances. Yes I feel sorry for our demise and our fans have been cheated, but if you were a genuine rugby supporter then you would wish us all the best and not be wrapped up in all of your own self glory. If it was your lot then I would feel sorry for them and wish them all the besthemsworthbull formerly known as pontebull wrote:I can feel the love all the way over here in Halifax. Here's a thought, why don't you support Wakey? Or are you another glory fan with no glory to be a fan of anymore? Loving how some of you deluded folk on here keep mentioning a knight on a white charger coming in at the last minute, that head in the sand fool Adey mentions this on RLfans, and here you are taking it all in like sheep. Marching on together. ps, Not very nice to wish me dead is it. pps, The current world and Superleague champions are self financing. That's what really gets up your nose isn't it, go on, admit it, small club man.Shelfrhino wrote: Halifax get my vote, then maybe some of the bull supporters living in 'fax may start to support their local team instead of being a "glory hunter", not that there's much glory down at the hole anymore.Shelfrhino, you are the biggest most moronic idiot that I have come across and I wouldn't even pee on you if you were on fire. The rhino's should be ashamed of you if you claim to be a supporter and with your posts, you do not deserve to be still on this planet. For your information, you would not have a club if it wasn't for Mr Caddick. If he wasn't the sugar daddy then they would be nowhere, so stick that up your rear end and go and crawl back under that stone from whenst you came.
As for calling HQ a hole, well it just goes to show how blinkered and deluded you are. I bet your one of Adey's sad crew of Ostriches waiting for Hood to come to rescue at the last minute. Won't happen I'm afraid.
I look forward to taking my future grand children for a walk to Odsal reservoir to feed the ducks.
As far as your remarks about Caddick go, read the accounts.
