Really good news. A lot of people we presuming that we signed McArdle as Luke's replacement, will be interesting to see who starts our first competitive game of 2012/13 now, but it's great competition. I'm itching for this winger though, we all know we need one, Parky knows we need one, all the fans know we need one, and I know it's coming, just want it to happen NOW! Keep up the good work though Parky, this one was very important, so well done

McArdle can play anywhere in the back 4 including both full backs so I presume it will be Oliver,Davies in Centre, McArdle right back unless Ramsden signs his contract then he'll be left back

Based on last season's performance, I think this is the biggest signing. Some sources say that he is 28; others 30. Either way, he will be good for another five years. Could have ended up disappearing after two years at a tin-pot club down south. It shows ambition and a successful campaign will prove that a correct decision was made.

Its not specifically a striker we need its a GOALSCORER OR TWO THAT WE NEED. AND SOME CREATIVITY FROM CENTRAL MIDFIELD

Behind Andrew Davies, this is the best signing of the summer. I haven't seen McArdle play, so I am reserving judgement on him, but, in my opinion, Davies & Oliver should start as the first choice pairing.

Similarly with today's midfield signing. I haven't seen much of Jones, so claims of being a 'quality passer' and 'tough tackler' will have to be believed until I see him play myself. In the meantime, I feel Ravenhill & Ritchie Jones would be my midfield partnership.

Don't get me wrong, today's signings have to be perceived as good news stories. However, the squad is still a million miles away from being completed. waynus your correct but there is still plent of time i may add.

Oliver signing is very good news and allows some continuity at the back. he took stick from many on here in his first season, not from me i may add as i was one of the few to defend him, but he's won fans over and was in hindsight Taylors best signing.

Overall squad wise we are desperate for some creativity. Were Reid to get injured we are relying on set-pieces and long balls for chances at present. We need two wingers/wide-players and an attacking midfieder for me. ! more striker at least is required. In this regard i expect Parky to go looking for another big forward as back-up/competition for Hanson. He suggested that was what Smalley was but he played most games on the wing.

However considering Parkys desire in quite a few games to play a striker in the 'hole' he may still attempt this et-up. Thus either devitt type players or small speedy attacking players may be what he's looking for even over and above wide players. Remember he even played bully in the hole ;-). I personally don't think it works at this level especially at home where teams can pack this area out with 5 across the middle. We need at home at least to be able to break teams down.....this for me means wingers.

This is the best signing so far without a doubt, and far more important than Davies' signature ever was. Well done Parky and the club, credit where credit's due.

Please re-read the first sentence of my post. I stated that Oliver's signature was good news as was the capture of Jones. However, I was asked by another poster to comment on the size of the squad. I merely pointed out that, despite the signings, there is still so much to do.
