Bradford’s bid to reach the RL Nines final at Headingley Carnegie next Tuesday fell short after they lost two of their three final-round fixtures at Odsal tonight.
Stu Barrow’s young guns, featuring the likes of Cain Southernwood, Callum Windley and Liam McAvoy, won their first game against Featherstone but then lost to Hull KR and Castleford.
The Bulls were 32-24 victors against Featherstone as Jordan Aitchison scored a try and then a powerplay to put the Bulls 8-0 up before Sam Wood went over and McAvoy converted the powerplay.
That meant the Bulls led 16-4 at the break before Wood scored again and Kain Feltham-Stout notched the powerplay to make it 24-4.
Aitchison scored again and Liam Darville grabbed the Bulls’ fifth to ensure victory.
In the Bulls’ second match of the game against Hull KR, they lost 20-18.
Jay Rossi opened the scoring for the hosts and Southernwood claimed a fine individual try but the Robins edged to victory despite late tries from McAvoy and Kyle Moore.
In their final game against Castleford, Jack Cockerham set up Windley for a fine try and the scorer converted it.
But despite two further Bradford tries in quick succession, including a fine score from Rossi, the Tigers claimed a 26-10 victory to end the Bulls’ hopes of progressing to the final.
