Haworth Road beat the weather and Oakworth
6:30pm Tuesday 19th June 2012 in Sport By Trevor Coe
Mohammed Zahid took six wickets to help dismiss Oakworth cheaply
Local cricket was again devastated by the weather.
It is five years since there was such a disrupted season.
Play was possible in six games in the Craven League, with only two of those reaching a conclusion.
Leaders of Division One Haworth Road have not lost a game to the weather this season and Saturday was no exception.
They entertained Oakworth and batting first made 164, with Will Burgess top-scoring with 34 as Michael Scarborough rolled back the years to claim 7-51.
But Mohammed Zahid undermined the Wide Lane side’s efforts as he took 6-37 to help bowl Oakworth out for a modest 90.
Craig Tempest (42), Neil Andrews (36) and Matthew Price (33) helped Bradley to post 181-5 at home to Crossflatts. The visitors had replied with 41-0 when rain stopped play.
There was play in two games in the Division Two and neither reached a finish.
Cowling’s Martyn Dalby hit 59 not out in their 106-3 before the rain came against Sutton.
Riddlesden made 129 against Glusburn, with Naveed Hussain scoring 36 and Goher Ayub 35, as Mark Pickles finished with 7-63. The Park Field side were 23-0 when play ceased.
There was a complete wash out in Division Three and the one game in Division Four was the reverse of Glusburn v Riddlesden at Stockbridge.
The homesters struggled to 116-8 in their 45 overs, with Darren Shields top-scoring with 34 not out. The Park Field were under the cosh at 45-7 when the weather saved them, with Imran Mehban taking 6-15.
Denholme II travelled to Thornton in Division Five and rattled up 232-8 on the back of a fine 102 from T Priestley as Mark Proctor finished with 5-64. Thornton were 31-2 in 14 overs when the rain arrived.
The other game to reach a conclusion came at Skipton CI II, where they were knocked over for 48 by visitors Foulridge II. Imran Khaliq took 4-25 and J Springthorpe 4-20. Foulridge cruised home by nine wickets, with Mick Gildea 30 not out.
