Jon Edmondson beat Pudsey clubmate Andy Hodgson 21-9 in the final to be crowned BRADFORD MERIT champion.

It was the first time Edmondson, who has a string of other titles to his name, had won the Enterprise Inns plc-sponsored competition as he came through a quality field with a series of emphatic victories.

* Debbie Davis (Pudsey BC) is the new Yorkshire ladies champion after beating county team-mate Helen Gilroy (Eccleshill & Cowcliffe Libs) in the final.

Davis won the decider 21-12 to lift the HYMAN MORRIS TROPHY at West Park in Bradford after Gilroy had made a bright opening to take the first four points.

The semi-finals had seen Davis beat Sharon Gadd (West Park), another Yorkshire colleague, 21-13 as Gilroy saw off Karen Gant (Meltham) 21-14.

* Jack Dyson (Netherton Cons) and James Davison (Eccleshill) were the final qualifiers in the Shipley CLASSIC, sponsored by Yorkshire Building Society and the trustees of Neville Harrison.

Dyson, on his first visit to Shipley, showed his class with wins over Scott Fisher (Morton House) 21-13, Bob Whitfield (Brighouse Sports) 21-9 and Jon Edmondson (Pudsey) 21-18 to make it through to finals night, for which he drew number three.

Davison, fresh from his Yorkshire Merit victory, qualified with ease after wins over Peter Hepworth (Myrtle Park) 21-14, Andy Gilroy (Eccleshill) 21-5 and Allan Thompson (Mirfield Old Bank) 21-9, before drawing number seven. The finals take place on Friday, with practice from 6pm for a 6.30pm start.
