St Stephen’s Church of England Primary are the first school from Bradford through to the West Yorkshire final of this year’s Drax Cup – the biggest cricket competition for under-nines in the country.

The team won a six-way tournament involving schools in Bradford School Sports Enterprise (formerly South Bradford School Sports Partnership) at Tong High School .

St Stephen’s join Victoria Primary from Keighley at the regional final at Pudsey St Lawrence Cricket Club on Wednesday, June 20.

Other primary school teams competing at Tong High School were All Saints, Horton Park, Ryecroft, St Anthony’s and St Columba’s.

More Bradford schools will compete at Bradford & Bingley Cricket Club on Tuesday to try to secure a place in the area event when teams in the west of the city face each other, while Bradford (Thornton) School Sports Partnership has a tournament at Great Horton Church Cricket Club on Thursday.

Primary schools competing at Great Horton Church are Allerton, Brackenhill, Copthorne, Lidget Green and Springwood.

Yorkshire’s four regional winners will play in the finals at Headingley Carnegie Stadium on Sunday, July 8, prior to Yorkshire v Derbyshire Friends Life t20 clash.
