Phil Parkinson's signings will ‘excite’ fans, says Bradford City chief Baldwin

Phil Parkinson will only clinch a deal if he is 100 per cent sure it is right for the club Phil Parkinson will only clinch a deal if he is 100 per cent sure it is right for the club

City have “absolute faith” in Phil Parkinson to build a promotion-pushing team.

Parkinson is keeping his cards close to his chest as he sets about rebuilding the squad.

But director of operations David Baldwin insisted that his low-key approach will pay off.

Fans are waiting for a first big signing as the May 31 season-ticket deadline draws near. Around 3,700 have been sold so far – 400 of them flexi-cards – but the club are hoping for a late rush.

An eye-catching arrival would certainly boost sales but City remain confident that Parkinson’s team will live up to expectations.

Baldwin said: “There’s a lot of work going on behind the scenes, and people should know that.

“We’re setting our stall out to go for a promotion. That’s the reality and we need the players who can do that.

“Yes, there’s a nervousness because of the season-ticket sales. There’s a massive ramp up on that rallying call because it has a direct bearing. If you want good players, you’ve got to have the money to do it.

“If you set your stall out with a signing and do it prior to the season-ticket deadline that obviously gives everybody a lift. We understand that.

“But you’ve got to make sure the deals are right. Don’t just push a signing over the line for the sake of it.

“But we have to take a punt as well and I think people will be quite excited when the signings come through.

“I have absolute faith in the manager’s ability to source those players at the right deal.”

Meanwhile, David Syers and Luke Oliver are still mulling over their new contract offers, while Parkinson will also sit down with Simon Ramsden to persuade him to stay.

Baldwin added: “David and Luke have confirmed, improved deals in front of them in writing. They have 30 days from the time those letters were received to decide whether to accept them.

“Simon’s situation is an ongoing discussion. I think he was away for a little while after the memorial service but there’s a planned rendezvous with the manager when an offer will be presented to him.”

i think Oliver may leave the club now reading between the lines of this interview which i can't help but think why when we knew he was out of contract at the end of the season did we not offer him a contract in January like Syers as Oliver was our best player throughout the season, well apart from Davies but we knew he wouldn't be staying

Doesn't read fantastic that either David or Luke need 30 days to make a decision. Granted the club have to give them some time. Would any of you want to stay if you were David given Parkie doesnt like him getting forward too much?

With regards to Ramsden I hope the majority of his earnings are on a 'performance' or 'fit to play' basis, with a very steady basic.

Only 9 days to decide, ticket or no ticket mmmmmmmm!!

"We will get big signings, honest Guv" I remember a radio interview with lawn last closed season where he was bigging up the signings we would or had made. Same pap, different season, although this year the fans are voting with their wallets it seems and its a vote of no confidence. Cue more leaked rubbish about players like etuhu, benson, vincelot that don't come to fruition.

If you cant sign syers and oliver straight away then what chance do we have of signing quality players?

Must be a poor offer if Dave and Luke don’t sign?

Could it be that the past three players of the have left the club?

As stated above Syers goes too far over the halfway line for PP

Look what happened to O’B he supported attack too much and he even scored goals – get rid.

Let's stop all this negativity guys. We all know the signings won't start til June and as for the s/t deadline, if the board see that not enough tickets have been sold, they might possibly extend it til the end of June. As for those names that were mentioned Etuhu and Bogdanovic the other week, Bogdanovic has been released by Blackpool and he might still come. Just buy your tickets as Bradford city fc. are priority not the manager or anyone else.

Aleximo, this club doesn't have a divine/unconditional right to their fans' money. If they stopped with all the lies, suggestive leaks and condescending guilt laden press releases and started treating the fans as intelligent customers and with respect then I imagine you would (like in any business) see an upturn in uptake. We really need to hire a PR guy as the claptrap coming out of the club (and its chairman) is counter intuitive and affecting business.

The club have given us five, now six, seasons of cheaper season tickets in an attempt to swell the gate with fans who were not watching Bradford City regularly before the price dive.

In those five seasons, the team (not the club) has not given the on-the-fence fans enough to warrant continued backing, and now they've decided that they have better things to do with their time and money.

It really is as simple as that.

we haeard al this last season: great signings and a promotion push and the manager is gone within a few games.

PP comes in with 90% of the season left and all his signings were ,at best, very acerage with the excitement of a flat pint save , maybe for reid. reiad looks more and nore like a young Daley with some brilliance but too many wrong choices and poor delivery or inconsistent delivery.

so deadbeat produces nothing but generallly deadbeat and down beat performances from his team and now we expect exciting signings/exciting players. I have one question to ask the directors and Mr Baldwin .... when did they last see a leopard change it's spots?

deadbeat will contine to create boring teams!

PP may be getting worried as i have heard Pearson (ex Hull chairman) is sniffing around for another challenge!

i agree with proxymoron. No matter how cheap the product no one will buy it more than once if it is crap!! the directors expect the floatinging ' floating fans' to keep on buying. It wil not happen until there is something worth watching and.sadly, PP is NOT the man to create that product!!

I have been a season ticket holder since the ground re-opened after the fire, and will continue to be one. This isn’t a question of loyalty to the club.

PP took over the club after six games he acquired what was to be a quality signing in Fagan, then played him on the wing? Reid worked out ok, Davies not bad when you could keep him on the pitch. Not all PPs signings have been that good.

I believe PP has spent his budget on the midfield with Ravenhill and Jones and can’t afford to pay Syers a decent amount to sign. But, what will it cost to find a suitable or better replacement?

I am hoping for a much better season than the last, we have some good away games nearby for a change.

Give the fans an extra month to find the money? Why should they? We all expexcted tickets to have been on sale at Christmas, but sadly they weren't. We then expected tickets to be released in March, but again, they weren't. Now they have given us until the end of May, which is later than normal.

I love all this "Propaganda" crowing that most of you are spouting - TIF - this is football - this is what most clubs do, they have to sell the club to the fans when it comes to this time of year, if the club isn't a Man U, Chelsea etc.

If you don't want to put your money in for your own personal reasons then absolutely fair enough, no one can dictate what you spend your money on, but PLEASE, if this is your decision, PLEASE don't try and drag other's down with your negative stance.
People will always have contrasting views, but this is a clean slate for PP, and I think he has the job whether you like it or not for another season, because if we can't afford to sign any players, we certainly can't afford to pay off one manager and pay to employ another!!!!

I agree his signings to date have not been incredible, bar one or two (which Davies aside, he has actually signed, the others were loanees, so no real harm done!), however, please credit yourself with enough knowledge to agree that he was operating outside of a summer transfer window picking up waifs and strays that were not playing as they were all that was available. He couldn't have them watched, unless it was in thereserves, and we all know the standard of that! So this time round he will have a MUCH larger pool of players to choose from as this season will see a record of unemployed and available footballers.

If you don't want to get a ST now, then please do sit on the fence, see what the signs are after a month or so, then either pay more on the door or buy a slightly more expensive ST, but don't put off any more supporters as the only effect that will have is drive us further down.

True, but can you tell me that EVERY signing made by Alex Ferguson or Arsene Wenger 'excites' and hits the right note?
.
PP made some poor signings last season and some of his decisions frustrated fans. However, there were some positives too.
.
We were made harder to beat, especially at home and, contrary to opinion, we did score goals in most home games. He signed Fagan, a recognised player on a contract until the end of the season. It didn't work out, but PP couldn't exactly get rid as that would have cost us more money. Had he not played, who could he play instead? He clearly didn't think Rowe was good enough, but he did try others such as Atkinson, Smalley and Syers. None did any better than Fagan.
.
It didn't work out for Fagan and PP, but you can't say it was for a lack of trying. How many criticised him for making more and more signings, when the previous one hadn't worked out? Reid has been a good signing and PP did want Compton to stay too. Ravenhill was also a good signing as was Andrew Davies. We never saw the best of Atkinson or Dagnall, but both are very good players, or at least, have been in the past.
.
I do believe that, given the right money, PP will build a decent squad. I just hope the fans of BCFC, (not PP or the Chairmen) support the team rebuilding and thus, renew their season tickets. Without their backing and, more importantly their money, the club won't be able to add to the current squad and we will get relegated. If that happens, we all know what will probably happen to the club.
.
I know it has been depressing and I know we can all pick faults in something or other in what PP has delivered. However, now is the time to support the club and get behind everyone associated with it. After all, we will all probably end up spending more than £8.75 to go shopping with the missus..!

What are you talking about! I merely pointed out that if it was a case of allowing people 'more time to find the money', what difference does it take what the signings etc make. People haven't bought their tickets because they don't want to, NOT because they haven't had time to save up. That is a fact, Not me lecturing you.

Yes, it was your opinion and I'm not attempting to stop you making it. I simply asked you why the club should extend a deadline that is long enough already and explained why I personally DON'T AGREE.

As for James Hanson, stop being a fool. It wasn't a "witch-hunt" and I certainly didn't drag it on for weeks. I pointed out that I had seen him "hitting the juice" like a kid in a sweety shop and, as such, questioned his professionalism (since been replicated by his managers McCall, Taylor and Jackson). That ONE comment dragged on for weeks, but it wasn't me that kept bringing it up.

One final point on Parkinson's signings and that, in particular, of Craig Fagan. He was signed in the middle of September and there were over 40 comments made at that time. Most were very positive at the news. So, we expected him to deliver as much as PP did. Here are a selection of some of the quotes;
Gspot - "superb signing".
Dave2610 - "Heres to a fruitful partnership with Jimmy!!".
Freddy - "Devitt, Reid, Fagan - All three are good quality players".
Balbriggan - "As previously predicted Parky would make more class signings"
Dann - "PP has made two very good signings, with two to prove themselves, Fagan fitness wise".
Bradford1903 - "A good coup" and "looks to have made some good signings".
BigChris221 - "i'm excited at craig fagan coming to the club".
.
Would any of the above still rate Fagan, or were they equally let down by the player, as PP was? The same goes for other signings made by PP, such as Devitt, Duke, Atkinson and /or Dagnall.

I think you all need to read my comment again because none of you seem to have read it properly. I stated that as we all know, the signings won't really start til June. Plus, I added If the board see that the s/tickets arn't selling fast enough, they MIGHT just decide to extend the offer til the end of June. I didn't mention anything about the club SHOULD extend the offer. Why all the arguing about the deadline? Those who don't want to purchase a s/t, then that's your choice

ALEXIMO.56. wrote: Let's stop all this negativity guys.
Well if the club are so confident of these "exciting signings" coming there is no reason not to put the deadline back to the end of June, if the "exciting signings" come then it's win win for the club as fans will know they aren't being fed the usual pre season propaganda and will buy their season tickets, surely it's not too much to ask to give fans an extra month to find the money ?.
Give the fans an extra month to find the money? Why should they? We all expexcted tickets to have been on sale at Christmas, but sadly they weren't. We then expected tickets to be released in March, but again, they weren't. Now they have given us until the end of May, which is later than normal. . How much time do people need to 'find the money'? If it is a cost issue, they also had (have) the opportunity of spreading payments over many months, so that isn't an excuse either. . Basically, people have decided they don't want to support their club anymore. For whatever reason, they feel the demise and eventual ceasing of BCFC is not their problem and they won't miss the buzz when the club folds. Their choice, but I hope they don't bang the "Save our Club" drum when we are hours away from liquidation....!
Thank you. CTID
25 year season ticket holder here BCFCBoothy1 so don't come with your condescending comment to me,been there done it over the 50+years of watching Bradford City, but you know the old saying "tell them offen enough and they will belive you" CTID my arse LOL.
NowtFresh, please feel free to ignore my "condescending" comment if you don't like the sound of it - the point I was making is pretty clear and accurate, so if you find your comments are going to help the club, then brilliant, because that is what I was trying to do, help people see the other side of the coin. I think you will notice in my "condescending" comment I was accepting that fans can choose to spend their money elsewhere or on other things, especially if they have seen enough, but surely any fan doesn't want the rest of the fan base to follow their actions....do they?

Granted, I don't have 50+ years of watching City on my CV, i have only been watching (supporting) them for 27 years, but in that time i have heard this thing every single year, even when we were Premiership bound, and funnily enough when we survived and Jewel was sacked, we had it, ooooh look, we've signed petrescue and Ashley Ward, please come and support us.....

They need the money, it is as simple as that. Fair enough if you have had a gut full, all i am asking is please don't sabbotage what the club are trying to do, because if the people "acting with their feet" get a lot of people to follow them, as Waynus points out, we won't be able to get (or retain) the better players and will head to the BSP. That would be the end.

And actually yes, CTID! ;o)

Some of you guys make me laugh. I thought we supported a football team? All of us? Together? Watching a team that doesn't play expansive, passing games every week is something we have to live with, because, well, IT'S LEAGUE 2 GENTS!!! We're not talking Champions League quality, it's, 'on yer head son' stuff down here, quite simple really. We support Bradford City, because they are our team, wether they play footy on the floor, in the air, or in the local park, because it's OUR TEAM!! So if you want to keep supporting them, buy a season ticket, or a flexi card, or a single ticket every time they play at home, or even, just maybe, go to a couple of away games next season too, because they are OUR TEAM!! To be quite honest, I couldn't care less who we sign, I signed up for my season ticket in March, knowing full well that we were pants and (maybe) losing some of our good players like Syers, but I bought one because they are OUR TEAM!! All I ask, and I mean this, all I will ever ask, is that anyone who dons the claret & amber puts in 110% every time they cross that white line, i'll be happy, the club will be ok, and the players might even get some job satisfaction, because commitment breeds confidence and confidence breeds points, points breeds promotion. Good enough for me.

And by the way, I'm one of those who can't really afford a season ticket, but they are MY TEAM!! and i'll keep putting my faith in them until I wake up one morning in May, maybe in 2013, or maybe 2020, and say, god, I'm glad I got that season ticket, 'cos thats the best City season i've had since 1999-2000! (Plus it gets me out of the house for a few hours every Saturday when the Mrs is doing my head in) COME ON CITY!!!

we haeard al this last season: great signings and a promotion push and the manager is gone within a few games.
Deadbeat?

oh no!!! its catching on!!

Cannot afford players unless tickets perchased first UM its like going to a store and having to pay only then will thay perchase the goods The Directors must get real if they need Money as i have said before issue Shares i can assure them a Great Deal of Money would be forthcoming Players could then be obtained who would give City a real team BUT it does appear they do not wish to go down this road JUST WANT to keep a Grip on City and plead lack of cash Muddle on in the same old way Fine But the way out is There if the Diretors want to take it COME ON DO IT AND WE WILL BUY THE SHARES

You're either fans or not. Buy a season ticket or eff off. For the record, last season was meant to be a stabilising one. Promotion was never mentioned. The board made a point of saying this. They made a point of saying the playing budget was greatly reduced. They made a point of lowering fans' expectations. Some of you are either amnesiacs or retarded. Or both.

Signing Robbie Blake would also push the excitement levels up a notch, what a great player, ex City and still got a season or two left in those tricky legs - I'd like to hear that signing.
His experience would also help the squad massively.

Fingers crossed on that one!
