Bradford Bulls boss Mick Potter frustrated after Salford try levels scores just before end

Mick Potter could not hide his frustration last night after the Bulls conceded a late try to draw 20-20 at Salford.

Tom Burgess’ 71st-minute score, following an earlier hat-trick from Karl Pryce, was converted by Luke Gale to put Bradford 20-16 up and on course for a sixth away win of the season.

Yet Salford refused to lie down and Jodie Broughton struck four minutes from time to level the scores, with Daniel Holdsworth missing the conversion that could have sealed victory for the hosts.

Potter felt his men had generally underperformed and said afterwards: “I don’t know whether it was a fair result but we’ll take one point, given that both teams probably underperformed.

“There was probably a bit of ill-discipline from both teams and we need to sort our situation out.

“We came up with some pretty poor decision-making. We let the game slip but Salford are probably thinking the same in their dressing room.

“I’m not satisfied with our performance. The players worked very hard but we just didn’t do the right thing enough. We weren’t smart enough at the right time.”

Potter felt Pryce was culpable defensively after former Leeds winger Danny Williams scored two tries down his flank.

“He might have done okay to score his tries but there are some things that we need to look at other than just the tries he scored,” said the Bulls boss.

“There is a defensive part of the game that needs to be addressed as well and that wasn’t good enough for us.”

Olivier Elima was sinbinned for a professional foul late on and Salford drew level moments later through Broughton’s try.

Yet Potter said: “Salford probably did three professional fouls and no action was taken, but that wasn’t why they scored.”

The Bulls’ under-20s lost 52-16 to Salford last night, with Matt Bailey, Sam Wood and Kyle Williamson on the scoresheet for Bradford.

Meanwhile, Bulls fans have the chance to meet Potter’s squad tomorrow in celebrations to mark the 45th anniversary of Blue Hills Farm Shop in Birkenshaw.

The ‘Festival on the Farm’ runs from 1-6pm and includes events for the whole family.

Salford grasped the low hanging fruit and snatched the win, 80 minute game no arguments from me.

This result shows that we are Ok and improving but do lack real class in places. We should have won last night but we were all nervous as Salford always looked capable of scoring out wide. In the end I was happy with a point. This helped swing my opinion of Karl last night. Good in attack but just not at the game when tough defence is needed and just didn’t have the pace when he intercepted. We need Purtell back along with a better winger. I am starting to think that the two wingers are positions that Potter will need to look at to complement the two Ausie centres. Thought L’Estrange picked the team up brilliantly when he came on. I wonder if Diskin could be released next season and Heath becomes the first choice with O’Brien as bench. The lads tried their best again but we were just lacking quality in a few positions and that left us hanging on when we should have killed them off. If I could give them the money I would tell them to look at a top quality stand-off (but where from?), one tough forward and either sign or sort out the two wings.

This result shows mid table mediocracy Prycey and nothing else, Salford perenial strugglers and only 1 point in 2 games against them and if Holdsworth had kicked last minute conversion it would be a blank.Rose tinted specs

A point gained rather than a point lost but it is a fair reflection of where the side is - i.e. we are not top six and definitely not top four. I said at the time that I thought Mr Diskin was superfluous to requirements at Odsal and stand by that. Was he the last payment to Leeds in the Harris affair? Heath L'Estrange should be our starting hooker with Addy or O'Brien backing him up. The wage bill definitely needs to be cut. If Wigan are paying full cap for the squad they have assembled, how can the Bulls be paying the same for theirs? Also, it was no surprise seeing Karl score three against the Reds, who will make tenth at best, but his defence will let him down more times than his attack will support him. After watching Wigan cut Huddersfield to shreds, there is, once again, a massive gulf between the top two or three and the rest. Power and fitness are needed if we are to compete.

Leeds wanted rid of Diskin after his brawl with Buderus in a Leeds Night Club. Soon after, up pop Bradford with a three-year contract. Pure speculation on my part though.
Think it was more to do with Diskin not wanting to play 2nd fiddle to Buderus and bradford offering him a longer deal than Leeds, Oh and his brother in law Cummings joining Bradford staff.

You are right scandinavian. Mid-table 7-8 would do me this season and that would actually be an improvement. Anyone who watches the Bulls realise that guts and determination only gets you so far in sport. Class and quality is what gets you into that top 4-6 and we are lacking enough of that at the moment. Three or four top players would make a big difference but how do we get them at the moment? I am still happy with the improvement this year but am not getting too excited as I know that we are not a consistent match for the top 6 at the moment. That could change though with some decent backing and investment which makes next week a very important time for us. Fingers crossed!

Live is great if you can get there but you are deluding yourself if you think it gives you a greater insight into the game. 10 different camera angles and numerous replays, plus expert analysis - can you get that at a live game?

I actually think the viking is the forum troll, Free speech should be encouraged and there is a motion going through the courts as we speak to allow more free speech and not have a nanny state, Speak up we'll listen.

Listened to the match on BSB radio, it sounded like the Bulls were architects of their own downfall. The penultimate Salford try came as a direct result of Lulia giving away a penalty on the 4th tackle on his own 30m line. The last try came when another penalty was awarded for Elima holding back a chasing Salford player. Earlier on Whitehead made a clean break but went down with 2 players outside him. Don't about Pryce's defensive lapses last night but he has been very suspect from what I've seen at Odsal. Another speciality of ours for the last few seasons has been wingers out of position when the opposition throw the ball out wide. We need to sort out our discipline, 20 penalties were awarded last night (10 each) and certain referees penalise more than others. With that in mind the players should watch their discipline.

Shame we lost though as we would have been in 6th position, for the weekend at least. Despite all this the lads are playing more as a team and not throwing in the towel as happened in the past. I think we need another big forward and a classy stand off. COYB!

See you managed a draw with Salford, so it looks like things are looking up for you.
Not long now until the mighty Rhino's take you apart though.
Adios peasants.

Ooops!Sorry viking my mistake. What I meant was we didn't win.Concerning the rest of your post though, how dare you! For your information I have supported the Northern/Bulls since 1967 and been a season ticket holder since 1986. It goes without saying I pledged my £100. During the last 25 years I have introduced my family to the Bulls and spent many happy (and some unhappy) hours both home and away. It's one thing you questioning my allegiance but to call me a Rhinos supporter, hey come on and I think it's your turn to apologise?

At the end of the day we threw the game away. Yes we got a point but we should have had two. Silverwood and Childs are renowned for giving out penalties so we should have tailored our game accordingly and not been as generous to the opposition. In the end they (the penalties) proved costly.

Writer I think TBC has a lot of aliases, don't let him wind you up, just ignore him and he may go away. You sound like a fan to me and your post is a good reflection of the game. One of Salfords tries came from a Burgess knock on about 15 mt from Salfords line and then this was followed by a penalty and next minute they score. In defence of both teams handling errors the conditions were terrible with rain most of the game, only when we left the shelter of the covered terrace that we realised how cold & wet it was.

The T&A need to sort this forum out there's too much trolling going on.

I think the result is OK. A point away against Salford is an improvement on last year's away trip to Salford.

Realistically it should only be Bulls and Hull KR fighting for 8th spot, and we're a few points ahead. We're still in with a chance of 7th place too.

I fancy Hull FC to beat Hull KR next Saturday and I hope we can beat the Rhinos.
