Beating Leeds Rhinos would be a magic moment, says Bradford Bulls captain Matt Diskin

Matt Diskin is already looking forward to putting one over derby rivals Leeds in next weekend’s Magic Weekend in Manchester.

The Bulls have never beaten the Rhinos in three previous attempts in the ‘Magic’ format and Diskin wants to put that right.

The joint Bradford captain, who won four Super League titles during his time at Leeds, helped Mick Potter’s men to victory over the reigning champions on Good Friday.

Diskin, who will lead the Bulls against Salford this weekend, said: “Every time you face Leeds it’s always very competitive and you always want to put one over on them.

“The fact that we have never beaten them in the Magic Weekend is a surprise to me and it’s something we want to try and rectify.

“We have had a couple of good results against Leeds in our last two games and we are certainly going into this year’s fixture full of confidence.”

Last season’s controversial late defeat at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium, on Diskin’s Bradford debut, still rankles with the Dewsbury-born hooker.

He added: “There have certainly been some close calls where the games could have gone either way and last year’s was one of those.

“I have been lucky to have had a foot in both camps over the years and I know just what it means to the clubs, the players and the supporters of both teams.

“It’s going to be close, it’s going to be hard fought and it’s going to be full of passion.”

Er - lets try and get past Salford first Disko before we start getting sentimental!!!

Sallford will be a very tough game and they really embarressed us when we played them previous this season.

Lets not get too ahead of ourselves.

exactly, concentrate on the next 2 points not the 2 after that.
But i also notice he didnt mention the game we lost at cardiff 2007 when we were robbed by Klein and Ganson! that still makes my blood boil 5 years on !!

Agree with the above, particularly concentrating on this week. I believe we've stumbled several times previously because we have been looking to the next game with L***s.

Calm down. This will just be one of those Super League interviews pushing the magic weekend. I noticed one from Roby talking about revenge on Wigan and they have Leeds to play on Monday. Unfortunately the game needs to have a good Magic this time and super league will be pushing clubs for promotion of it. Don't think Diskin will be underestimating Salford.

Why do think they're having it in Manchester, reading. Even the idiots at red house know, that you'll get more nearer home. It's on the M62 corridor, in the heartland of rl, what more do you need. From supporters point of view, no need for hotels, go everyday, go home at night or just go to watch your own team.

it has the same effect on me as for disko keep your mind on this week not the next!!!
