Yorkshire: Starc sent back to Australia
6:40am Wednesday 9th May 2012 in Sport By Graham Hardcastle
New Yorkshire signing Mitchell Starc has been forced to return to Australia due to a visa problem.
Left-arm quick Starc flew out of Heathrow last night following an unsuccessful meeting with the UK Border Agency, which means his county debut will be delayed until at least next week when Yorkshire play host to Hampshire.
Starc tweeted: “Well that’s a first! Being deported from England. Surely nothing else can go wrong can it?
“Visa issue. Incorrect communication from Aus. Will be straight back to UK ASAP once sorted in time for next game. Disappointed I won't get to play, but good luck to the lads.”
Yorkshire were keen to stress that the problem was not of their own making, although Starc was unlikely to have played against Gloucestershire in the Championship today anyway after all the confusion since his arrival in England on Saturday afternoon.
