Nick Scruton column: So our Challenge Cup run comes to an end for the 2012 season.

I wouldn’t say last week’s defeat at Warrington was one of those games that ‘could have been’.

But if we had not conceded that try on the stroke of half-time, then I really think that the second half could have been very different.

It’s been so disappointing, on a personal note, to miss all of our cup games but it’s a very long season and I hope to be able to contribute more to our play-off push.

Being the optimistic person that I am, I’m going to look at the positives that came with the disappointment of Saturday’s game.

Rugby league is one of the most demanding sports in the world and we now have a weekend free to rest up and give our bodies the break that they need.

A quick word on John Bateman and his three-match ban.

I’m not condoning dirty tactics at all but John is one of the brightest prospects in the game.

We need tough players like ‘Pappa John’ in rugby league and, for me, he plays it the way that it should be played.

Personally, I think that bans are handed out too easily.

I tend to think of the saying ‘go hard or go home’ – but I’m sure the Rugby Football League wouldn’t agree!

This week sees a tough trip down to London to face the Broncos.

The problems that logistics throw up always make these trips difficult and we’re going to have to turn out a big performance to get the win.

I think it’s really important after a cup defeat to get our season right back on track and I know the boys are ready for a polished display.

It would be great to see as many of you supporters down there as possible cheering them on.

Come on you Bulls!
