Raskelf Lake is closed on Sunday for the first of this year’s members’ matches. Queen Mary’s Ponds at Ripon are fishing very well for good nets of tench up to 5lb along with the odd bream, with one angler reporting one into double figures. Milby Cut canal and Kirklees Cut canal should be worth a visit this week for good nets of roach, perch and skimmers to maggot and float tactics. Chellow Dene is continuing to produce excellent catches of quality roach and skimmer bream, with day tickets still available from Tackle 2U on Manchester Road and Hill Top News on Allerton Road at just £3 for adults and £1 for juniors.

The first of this year’s Captain Mannering carp matches fished last weekend was a dour affair with only two fish caught, and these in the last two hours of the match. 1 D Hunter 10lb 8oz, 2 Luke 3oz. Yes, 3oz! The year’s first six-hour match was fished on the second pond. 1 M Marshall 8lb 4oz, 2 D Glenton 7lb 10oz, 3 P Coope 7lb. Wally of the month award was easily won by the member who threw a large number of cigarette buts in the water at Peg Five on the first pond, and this with the bins 25 yards away.
