FC Halifax Town 1, Guiseley 2

GUISELEY strengthened their grip on second place in Blue Square Bet North with a 2-1 win at neighbours FC Halifax Town.

The Lions had to come from a goal down to beat the Shaymen but were unable to close the gap on leaders Hyde as the Cheshire outfit won 1-0 thanks to a late penalty.

However, it was a damaging blow for Halifax’s own promotion hopes.

Lee Gregory edged the home side into an 11th-minute lead at the Shay and they held that slender advantage going into the interval.

Guiseley drew level just minutes into the second half when Lee Ellington equalised and Simon Baldry struck the winner in the 65th minute.

It was also a profitable evening for Farsley AFC in Evo-Stik League Division One North as they jumped back into the play-off places with a 1-0 home win over Radcliffe Borough.

It was a penalty winner for Farsley after Ben Jones was brought down midway through the first half but got up to net the resulting spot-kick.

Farsley move back into the top five at the expense of local rivals Garforth Town but on goal difference only.

SILSDEN lost 2-1 at AFC Blackpool in the North West Counties League Premier Division.

Following a goalless first half, Grant Dell gave the home side the lead just after the hour.

An own goal levelled the contest but Marc Beattie converted following a late free-kick to earn the hosts all three points.

THACKLEY reached the semi-finals of the Baris Northern Counties East League Cup with a 4-1 home win over Nostell MW.

But BRIGHOUSE TOWN missed out after losing their quarter-final 2-0 to visiting Shirebrook Town.

Wednesday night sees ALBION SPORTS needing a home win to consolidate second place in NCE Division One as they host lowly Bottesford Town.
