Bulls 12 St Helens 8

Mick Potter was left beaming with pride as the Bulls claimed their first home win of the season with a momentous victory over his former club St Helens.

Both teams were missing several players through injury but the Bulls were rock-solid in defence and showed tremendous guts and determination to register a famous success.

Saints led midway through the first half through a highly controversial try from Andrew Dixon following an earlier forward pass, yet the response from Potter's men was to be admired.

Elliott Whitehead's bravery was rewarded with an opportunist try which saw him accidentally booted in the face by Jamie Foster, leading to an eight-point try shortly before half-time as Paul Sykes kicked the conversion and a penalty for the challenge on Whitehead.

Shortly after the restart, Karl Pryce finished well after Foster failed to deal with Ben Jeffries' hanging kick and that put the Bulls in control.

Foster, who had a night to forget, was later sinbinned as the Bulls held on for the remainder of the game thanks to the kind of spirit which is beginning to become their trademark.

Saints, who slumped to their fourth straight Super League defeat, replied in the dying embers through Francis Meli's fine effort but the night belonged to the Bulls.
