In-form Jason Crookes has targeted victory over St Helens on Saturday as he bids to maintain his “dream start to the season”.

The Bulls winger scored a predatory hat-trick in the stunning comeback win at Hull KR, taking his tally to five tries in six games.

Crookes has taken his chance with aplomb since being handed the left-wing berth by coach Mick Potter at the start of the year.

“I always knew I could do it but it’s been a dream start to the season,” he said.

“I’ve not done anything particularly differently this year. I’ve just got my head down and tried to make it a big season.

“I’m just delighted to have scored a few tries. Have I set any targets for the season? Not really. I just want to take each game as it comes and hopefully keep scoring.

“Mick has been putting a lot of faith in me and I’m just trying to repay him by doing the best I can for the team.”

Saints, meanwhile, are wobbling alarmingly and will head to Odsal on the back of three straight defeats.

Crookes said: “A win at home against Saints would be massive. The fans are really getting behind us now and it would be great to repay them.

“The mood in the camp was good after the Warrington game but the lads really were buzzing after beating Hull KR.

“It’s been a tough start to the season but we’ve gone away from home, stuck together and got three wins. Now we need to do it at Odsal.”

Crookes, 21, impressed during pre-season and has not looked back, arguably emerging as Potter’s first-choice winger.

In the past few rounds, he has showed signs of a promising partnership with centre Keith Lulia.

Crookes, whose current contract is due to expire at the end of the year, said: “Keith is really good to play with and is getting better every week.

“I think we’re forming a pretty good partnership. I wasn’t expecting that great pass on Saturday but he just flicked it out the back and I managed to get over in the corner.”

Meanwhile, the Bulls were today awaiting the prognosis on Nick Scruton (shoulder) and Jamie Langley (ribs) after they were injured at Hull KR.

Olivier Elima and Adrian Purtell are expected to come into contention to face St Helens.
