Michael Flynn column
I’ve not got much patience at the best of times, so I’m desperate to be involved again after doing all the training and running with the lads. It’s been such a frustrating time and I can’t wait to see the end of it.
The Crawley game being postponed last week was a bit of a blessing in disguise because it’s another one that I can be involved in.
But I’ll leave it to the gaffer to decide when he wants me. I’d love to be included on Saturday but we’ve got Port Vale coming up on Tuesday, so I’ll understand if the club want to wait.
I trust what the gaffer, Nick the fitness coach and our physio Dave have to say. If they think it’s best to hold on for a few more days, then I’m not going to harp on about it.
There are a lot of games left and there’s no point in rushing back for the sake of it this weekend and then missing the next four games because I’ve got a calf strain.
We’ve played Wimbledon twice already and they’re a good team. They outplayed us first time at our place but I thought we did really well in the FA Cup tie. They had a blip around then but have started getting a few results together again and we know it’s going to be difficult.
It’s a tight little ground and our heads have got to be right. We’ve got to match them for all the horrible parts of the game and then hopefully our football ability can take over.
Looking at the table, we do need points on the board but the time when you don’t still want to be looking over your shoulder is the beginning of April. Let the rest scrap it out at the bottom of the table so we can start looking forward to next season.
I don’t mean it in a cocky or arrogant way but relegation is not something I’m worried about because of the quality we’ve got in the squad.
My concern is getting the points that we need and then pushing on to prepare properly to go again. There are 19 games left and every one of them matters.
