There is no doubting Saturday's Aire-Wharfe League match of the day, with Division Two leaders Steeton putting their unbeaten record on the line against second-placed Ben Rhydding.

Steeton have opened up an 11-point cushion in a three-horse promotion race, and Ben Rhydding must realise that nothing less than victory will keep them ahead of Knaresborough, who are level on points with them and hot favourites to overcome bottom club Tong Park Esholt.

But getting anything against Steeton will require a more convincing performance than they showed in their narrow win over Upper Wharfedale last week, especially with the form of the leaders’ top batsmen John Akrigg and Shane McNamara.

Akrigg already has 685 runs to his name at an average of 68, while McNamara has scored 733 (1,030 if you include cup matches) at an average of 56.

While Tong Park Esholt will need a minor miracle to make up the 15 points between them and safety in the six remaining games, there is a four-way battle above them to avoid filling the second relegation spot.

Menston currently hold that place but with John Storey in consistently good form, they have the chance to climb out of it against Upper Wharfedale, who are only four points above them.

Calverley are level on points with Wharfedale but could improve that against a Pool side that have looked fragile at times in recent weeks.

Harden are one point better off but have won only two of their last ten matches, both against the bottom two sides, and they might struggle against Bolton Villas’ attack of Sam Lawrence and Umer Yaqoob.

Olicanian entertain North Leeds, hoping for their first double of the season.

Division One leaders Thackley should have no problem maintaining their ten-point advantage with victory over an Adel team that seems set for relegation, and they will hope that Burley can do them a favour by taking some points off second-placed Kirkstall but with the form of Jos Siddall’s side that looks unlikely.

Otley’s defeat last week looks to have ended their hopes of catching the leaders and they face a tricky trip to Beckwithshaw, where defeat could mean them dropping out of the top four if Guiseley can build on recent successes and win at Follifoot.

Despite the form of Yasser Ali and Istikhar Hussain, Green Lane have dropped from second to ninth in recent weeks and, buoyed by last week’s win over Adel, bottom club Rawdon might be able to pull off a surprise victory.

There is a massive clash at the top of Division Three where promotion hopefuls Ilkley entertain runaway leaders Bilton.

The visitors are unbeaten and on a six-match winning run, but Ilkley have Rory Kroon in consistent form and the knowledge that they are the only side to take a winning draw off Bardsey this season.

Ilkley will also hope that Addingham hit their best game against second-placed Colton, while the sides immediately below them, Illingworth and Woodhouse, cancel each other out.

Having only dropped two points in their last six games, Silsden should be too strong for Horsforth, while Skipton will be looking to stay out of the bottom two when they travel to New Rover, aware that the current sides in those places - Hall Park and Alwoodley - meet with Park expected to win.
