BRADFORD No1 AA Saturday’s junior match at Willow Hall was won by Josh Freer with 1lb 8oz. The under-12s was won by his brother Zach Freer with 4lb 4oz consisting of F1s and perch. Sunday’s committee match, also at Willow Hall, was won by Harry Foster with 6lb 4oz. Some of the club’s stretches of the River Calder will be closed this Sunday for the first round of the Calder League. Teams should meet for the draw at 9am at the Black Bull, Brighouse where breakfasts will be available. Chellow Dene and Shelf Dam are worth a visit for bream to 4lbs, while the River Calder at Cornmill is fishing well for chub. There may be some disruption to mid-week anglers at Queen Mary’s Ponds, Ripon as the army are using the lakes for canoe manoeuvres in the coming weeks.

WASHBURN VALLEY FISHERY Catch details for week ending July 17 – Day ticket: Fewston 34, Swinsty 11, Thruscross (catch & return) 2. Total fish caught: Fewston 140, Swinsty 65, Thruscross 11. Average per rod: Fewston 4.1, Swinsty 5.9, Thruscross 5.5. The heaviest fish caught was a 5lb 6oz rainbow trout by Jarek using cat’s whisker. Fewston & Swinsty: A productive week, fishing well most mornings with fish turning off late morning. Rainbow trout coming to feed late afternoon again. Several good catches of brown trout on Fewston in the evening shade. Thruscross: Water level now dropping, allowing more access. Brownies rising to take daddy long legs blown across the surface.

IDLE A THACKLEY AA Open match on River Swale at Swainby this Sunday. For bookings, call 615016. Result of last Swainby match: 1 C Hardaker 14lb 13oz, four chub, 2 G Husrcoft 14lb 12oz, 3 S Anderson 9lb 15oz.

BRADFORD & DISTRICT SEA AC There is still one place remaining on our trip to Rhyl tomorrow. Anyone wishing to go, please ring Dave on 07711987833. Congratulations must go to one of our members John Wilcox, who fished the annual angling festival at Whitby. Wilcox won £5,000 and a boat rod with the biggest fish of the festival, a Ling of 26lb 8oz caught on Richard Ward’s boat Shy-torque 2000. He also caught other fish to win three or four other days.

SALTAIRE AA Weather permitting, there is a working party on Saturday. Please meet at Tong Park at 10am. The intention is to cut back some of the weed growth, which has been excessive in the last month. Please contact the Secretary on 214441 if you are available. Fishing at Tong Park is proving to be difficult but some good fish are still being caught.

HEWENDEN AC Last Wednesday’s match was won by Don Highley with just 2lb ahead of John Duncan with 1lb. Next Wednesday’s match will have a 6pm draw in the carpark, £5 all in. Would all members note that the float-only match has been moved to August 21.

BIERLEY AC Several work parties, aided by timber supplied by Bradford Council, have transformed the three ponds and restocking has been done with more to follow. The ponds now abound with a large variety of coarse fish. Matches are held every second Sunday. £7 to enter plus 50p for the golden peg. Last Sunday’s match was fished in wind and rain. Results: 1 Trevor Mahon 16lb 4oz, 2 Danny Glenton 14lb 2oz, 3 Paul Coope 11llb 2oz. A 24-hour carp match takes place on the bottom pond, starting at 4pm tomorrow. LISTERHILLS AA The winner of the last evening match was E Harrison 2lb 10oz, runner-up J Allon 4oz. Result of Rodley Open: 1 N Smith 3lb 13oz, comprising 130 small fish, 2 G Kitchen 1lb 6oz, 3 T Melling 1lb 5oz, 4 S Parkinson 1lb 2oz. Last Saturday’s open at Rodley was won by E Harrison 1lb 10oz, 2 T Melling 1lb 6oz, 3 G Kitchen 14oz. Sunday’s members match at Newton on Ouse was won by E Harrison with 9lb 6oz, which included a specimen of 2lb roach, 2 D Jackson 8lb 8oz mostly perch to 1¾lb, 3 M York 3lb 12½oz. The draw for Sunday’s open match at Rodley is at 9am. From today the price of junior membership has been reduced to £3 for the rest of the year. When returning, fish anglers are asked to ensure that they do not get stuck in marginal weed.
