Guy Branston kicks off Bradford City career

Bradford Telegraph and Argus: Guy Branston is easing himself into City training after an extra week’s holiday Guy Branston is easing himself into City training after an extra week’s holiday

Guy Branston joined in City’s training for the first time yesterday – and had to rein himself in.

The sturdy centre half was given an extra week’s break after helping Torquay to the play-off final but he could not wait to get back in the thick of it.

“The lads are working really hard and they had to treat me with kid gloves a little bit,” said Branston.

“I’m that ecstatic about being back and I’m all ready for action.

“They chucked me in the dressing room and on the training ground and I immediately started to get that competitive edge.

“We were playing football and I wanted to go round tackling people but had to pull myself back.

“I’ve got to be sensible at my age, work my way in and get my legs right.

“We’re working long hours and the fans probably think we deserve that from last season – and we probably do.”

Peter Jackson, who laughed off a rumour linking David Syers with Rangers, is thrilled to see Branston in the City ranks.

The Bantams boss said: “His enthusiasm is incredible. He’s as excited now as when he started out in football as an 18-year-old and that will rub off on others.

“I just felt we’ve lacked that leadership and character last season.”

Jackson is casting his eye over two new trialists – Rotherham left back Jamie Green and former Oldham keeper Greg Fleming, although the Scottish stopper dislocated his finger in the first hour yesterday. American Steve Arau has not been kept on.

Meanwhile, reports in the north-east are linking City with former Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Tommy Miller, who is also interesting Hartlepool.

Having missed out on Gary Jones of Rochdale, the Bantams are trying to tie up a mystery target later this week.

Does the last paragraph refer to Miller? If so hardly a mystery if in the paragraph before his name is mentioned.
It seems to me that he's had long enough to make his mind up. I am worried that once again the club will be let down by a player who is using us to get a better deal elsewhere. Rumours on twitter we have offered him a 3 year deal. That wont be a cheap contract and a week later he's still thinking about it. What happened to signing players who wanted to be at Bradford City?

I suspect it will be a different player unless the writer is a complete dipstick.

I totally endorse your comments. The fact that the player had conversations last week and STILL hasn't decided if he wants to join us or not, shows he has no desires for Bradford City. He is clearly only interested in getting the best deal for himself and his family.
.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not slating the player for wanting to do best by his family, but (as you pointed out), we are only supposed to be interested in players that WANT to play for us. This player clearly isn't bothered as long as he gets the deal he desires.
.
Move on to the next target Jacko and put this one to bed.
.
p.s. Mark Lawn was on the radio this morning claiming we may be announcing a possible signing tomorrow morning. He went on to say he doesn't believe anything until the contract signs, but he is hopeful. WHEN WILL WE EVER LEARN!!

Our priority signings were wingers.

Do we need an ageing midfielder?

Sure, there are plenty of players still looking for clubs but, like everything else in life, the better ones tend to get snapped up early.
