Bradford Amateur Rowing Club were unable to win on their debut at the Henley Royal Regatta.
The coxless fours crew lost to West Yorkshire rivals Leeds Rowing Club in the first round of the Wyfold Challenge Cup on the historic 2,112-metre course.
The quartet of Tom Heaton, Pete Talboys, Richard Gledhill and Will Hall opened up an early lead but Leeds took advantage after the umpire warned Bradford for their steering and went on to win by 2¼ lengths.
Coach Mark Edwards said: “There were shouts for ‘Bradford’ all the way down the course and this was much appreciated.
“It was a really good row – they looked really good too – and I feel they have done Bradford proud.”
