Enforcer Olivier Elima has no problem sharing the Bulls’ spotlight.

As captain of France and one-time skipper of Catalan Dragons, the back-rower is happy to lead from the front.

But there is no shortage of strong characters at Odsal and Elima has revelled in a less high-pressure role.

“It’s a different situation to France and to Catalan because there are so many experienced players here,” he said.

“With the other two teams I probably had the most Super League games under my belt, so there was more pressure on me, which didn’t help.

“It has been good playing with so many experienced players. They have all played at a high level throughout their careers so there’s a different kind of pressure.

“Now I’m under pressure to perform and keep my place. I’m not under as much pressure to lead the boys like before.

“It’s always good when you bring the best out of each other and when the amount of work you do gets recognised by people.

“They see the little things you do and it’s good to get a pat on the back sometimes.”

Elima’s impressive form has been a big reason for the recent upturn in Bradford’s fortunes.

Since returning from injury in the Challenge Cup tie against Wigan, the Frenchman has been a real stand-out, despite performing two roles.

A guaranteed starter at second row, he has also played big minutes at prop throughout a three-game unbeaten run, as a result of injuries to Nick Scruton and Bryn Hargreaves.

“I’ve been playing in the middle as a prop for quite a bit,” said Elima.

“I’m starting in the second row but moving to prop, which is fine with me because I have the size and I’ve played there before. As long as it helps the team, I enjoy it.

“It’s not as much running as in the second row. It’s more direct and physical and I enjoy the physical stuff.

“We have not lost any of the last three games and we are working on it. You can tell we are playing with confidence and everyone is working hard with each other.

“Everyone is desperate to fight for results and we’re putting our bodies on the line every game.

“We need to keep working hard for each other and we will keep improving.”

A settled solution to the half-back problem has helped.

Mid-season signing Ben Jeffries has partnered Marc Herbert in the last two games and the pair combined well in the draw with St Helens.

Elima has noticed an instant change.

He said: “I think I am finding my feet now. It’s been quite difficult in the second row because the half-backs have changed a lot this season.

“We’ve had three or four different combinations because of injuries so you’re never playing outside the same player and it’s been a bit stressful.

“But we’re finding our feet as a team now with BJ and Herbie working well together.

“We’ve also been working pretty hard on communication because, during the early rounds, there were a few gaps in defence and it was pretty bad.

“Now we’ve shown that we are all working as a group.

“Communication and trust in the man inside and outside you is a big thing.”
