Two Hollins Hall pairs are hoping home advantage can help them win a trip of a lifetime to Dubai.

Graham and Patrick Young compete in the Matchplay Championship men’s pairs northern regional final at the Marriott course on Monday, while fellow members Darren Wallis and Denise Smith tee off in the mixed pairs equivalent.

Having already won five rounds of matchplay, the duos are hoping to go one better and reach the Grand Final at the Els Club (designed by Ernie Els) in Dubai.

A total of 45 pairs are competing at Hollins, with four pairs from each event qualifying for the luxury trip, where they will be joined by the qualifiers from the south regional final at Marriott St Pierre, near Bristol.

Tracy Dad and Dale Brook, from West Bradford, provide additional local interest in the men’s competition.

Orgainser John Woosey said: “It’s a great experience for golfers to play in front of the Sky Sports cameras.

“When pairs realise they are within touching distance of winning their seat on the plane to Dubai the pressure often starts to show and we always have an exciting finish.”
