Despite a low-key start to his Super League career, the Bulls expect big things from Marc Herbert.

The Aussie recruit made a long-awaited Bradford debut against Wakefield last week, easing back into action after missing three games with a hamstring problem.

Solid if unspectacular, Herbert played his part in a 40-18 win but boss Mick Potter is seeking instant improvement ahead of Sunday’s trip to Huddersfield Giants.

“I thought he acquitted himself well against Wakefield and he did what he needed to do,” said Potter.

“I wouldn’t say he dominated the game but nor did he need to, given he’s got (stand-off) Brett Kearney there to assist, as well as (hooker) Matt Diskin.

“I thought he did a good job but there certainly needs to be improvement, and there will be. It has to be against this team too because they’re a tough team to play.”

Initially, Potter was merely happy to see his scrum half come through the game unscathed.

But the Bulls head coach also reckons Herbert’s mere presence lifted the burden from his team-mates, who had battled on without a natural half-back in their previous two outings.

Potter said: “Marc will improve on that performance. I’m just happy he came through the game.

“It did take the burden off the others and we shared the load there with the talking, where we were going and how we played. It also gives us another kicking option.

“He’ll be better for that run and I’m glad he got that under his belt. I think everyone complemented each other in terms of how they blended together. It did look more fluid and it’s a good sign for the future.”
