Farsley bidding for historic victory

Following a stark reminder last Saturday that they have stepped up a level, Farsley Celtic are looking for their first ever points in the Conference North tonight when they cross the Pennines to take on Leigh RMI.

The Lancastrians, who were in the Conference proper just two seasons ago, also lost their opening game of the new season at the weekend, going down 2-1 at Vauxhall Motors.

"Both clubs will be looking for some comfort after losing in our first games but Leigh will be at home so it will be more difficult for us," said Celts boss Lee Sinnott.

"But then all the games will be tough ones this term because we have gone up a division and have to bed in.

"We have got the first one over, it's done and dusted. The only thing that bothers me at this moment is that we didn't do ourselves justice. If we put that right first then we can settle down and points will come." Sinnott has even more injury problems than he did for the opener, which Amjad Iqbal, Martin Pemberton and Dominic Krief all missed.

Andy Watson is ruled out due to family reasons and Damian Dunne picked up an ankle injury in a substitute appearance on Saturday.

Meanwhile Liversedge host Thackley in the first round of the President's Cup at Clayborn.

Sedge got off to a flier at the weekend with a 2-0 win but they will be forced to change their squad because Danny Lowe and Richard Marshall are suspended.

"We will have to drag a few in from the reserves but it will open doors for people," said Sedge boss Eugene Lacy.

Silsden are in action in the North West Counties Division One, at Ramsbottom United. Thomas Dibb is in contention after returning from a rugby union tour in Argentina with Bradford Grammar School.
