The big freeze has produced mixed emotions for our local National Conference teams at what is a vital part of the season.
Bradford Dudley Hill will look at the enforced lay-off as an opportunity missed to further enhance their Premier Division prospects after their impressive success at Wigan St Judes.
Last week’s postponed game against Hull Dockers had been eagerly awaited and fingers will be crossed for a window in the weather across in Humberside that will allow them to get their match at Skirlaugh Bulls underway, bearing in mind that Hill saw off the Bulls in a 26-4 win at Parry Lane.
West Bowling’s game against Division Two new boys Elland at Bankfoot Oval has already been called off due to the snow.
Bowling will welcome the break with a measure of relief.
Since recording a very tense and nervy 7-4 away win at Elland on the first day of the campaign, they have struggled, thanks to a mixture of injuries and plain bad luck.
They are now hovering in the re-election zone, while Elland, coached by former Great Britain and Bradford Bulls forward Karl Fairbank, have climbed the table into seventh spot.
The Pennine League fixtures have been wiped out, while Wyke had been scheduled to meet Pennine Division West outfit Birstall Victoria in the preliminary round of the BARLA National Cup, but must now rearrange.
