Bantams boss Taylor poised to make move for striker

City could have a new striker in to face Stockport at the weekend.

Peter Taylor confirmed he had a target in mind now that the emergency loan market is open again for clubs below the top flight.

With hamstring victim James Hanson stuck on the sidelines, the Bantams boss is looking for short-term cover in attack and had a player watched last night.

Hanson might be out for two or three weeks with his injury so we could do with having another forward,” said Taylor.

“I know the loan system is available and there is somebody I’m looking at and I think it would help the front two.

“Sometimes you can get a fresh face in just for the sake of it but if I feel a player coming in would make a difference then I will definitely think about it.”

City have scored only two league goals in five games and one of those came from the penalty spot.

But Taylor, fresh from shooting down rumours of a rift with the board, remains bullish about their prospects.

“I’m not very happy at all with the results but we aren’t far away,” he said.

“I bet there were other teams who played a lot worse than us last Saturday and won. Unfortunately everything’s going against us at the minute – but that will change.”

Taylor expects David Syers to be in contention to face Stockport on Saturday.

The midfielder complained of soreness in his calf after the Port Vale loss. He did train on Monday but pulled out during the session.

Taylor said: “We’re hoping it’s just tiredness, rather than a pull. You have to be careful with players coming from non-league.

“I’m sure Hanson and (Steve) Williams felt the same when all of a sudden you’re going from part-time to full-time. You have to take that into account.

“David knows the areas he needs to improve on but I fancy him to be a goal-scorer for us from midfield, which is what he does in training.

“I think he will get better as a player but he’s got fantastic energy. In last week’s game, he got in the box every time.”

Well done Mr Taylor it's only taken you 5 games to notice we're not going to score enough goals this season.

Ignoring the above, well done the board and PT for continuing to try and improve the squad. PT has been saying for weeks that he needs another forward and lets hope that he gets his man this time. I just hope its an experienced one and not another young striker.

Although I am happy to hear that Taylor is optimisitic of getting his target, I still hope it is a wideman rather than a centre forward. We have got 4 forwards (although one is currently injured) and I know they lack experience, but it is the service we need to get right.
.
Last week, Taylor said he was looking at a striker but it fell down and he would have another look. He indicated that the player was another young lad and that he wanted some experience.
.
I would still like to see someone like Devanney (Barnsley) or Robinson (Leeds) as they offer both experience and the skills needed by a top-winger. The problem would be their wages though.

you can have as many strikers as you like but unless they are moving into positions to receive the ball then there will forever be a problem.

However, I do agree with Waynus, all centre forwards/strikers rely on crosses made form good positions and that means crosses from the bye line coming back into on rushing forwards and back peddling defenders.

We have have failed for many seasons where we have simply failed to get wide and beyond the defence.

Really think we need a defender too.

Six points from the next 2 games a MUST.

Stockport only won one at home since Guy Fawkes last year

Gillingham not won away for 16 month

And how could he have done anything about it when the emergency loan market has just opened? Think you have just proved that sarcasm is the lowest form of wit

I did mention Grella in another post, along with Robinson. If Taylor saw his 'target' last night, here's hoping it is one of those two.

I can't ever remember reading that Taylor had been given a 'massive budget'. What we have been told was that Lawn agreed to increase the original budget allocated to Taylor, but that doesn't say it was substantial. We have also heard that Taylor went over this budget when he brought in Hunt and has been told funds are available for another forward, should he require one.
.
We don't have a massive wage budget to spend and the reason for that is the costs of the stadium. The rental costs of the stadium and shops, plus running costs (utility bills etc), cost us nearly £1.4m a year! That is the outlay before we even pay one salary. We may have 10k season ticket holders, but that is unlikely to bring in more than £1.8m. As such, we have to rely on sponsorhip deals etc just to bring in enough money to give Taylor a chance.
.
Why do you find this so hard to understand and more importantly, why is this Lawn's fault????

Does this mean less chance of seeing Moult up top and central?
.
I have said it before and has been mentioned by others on many occasions, it's width I feel we are lacking desperately, not easy for strikers to play their natural game without crosses been put in.
.
We thought managers would love to send their youngsters to us to work under Taylor, the way Moult has been handled I ain't so sure, anyone any ideas why he might not be first choice or even given a chance up top and central?.
.
Is it just me that feels this way re Moult?

It has always amazed me as to why with a big club on the doorstep City fail to land better players, Leeds loanees are better surely than Wycombe or Stevenage. Etc! Beckford and Somma are prime examples just ask Scunthorpe and\or Lincoln.

I see Bradford Council wants to reduce light pollution. I suggest Bradford City switches off its floodlights as this will a) reduce pollution and b) make it less easy for the opposition to see City's goal and thereby giving them a better chance of ever winning at Coral Parade.
Perhaps in respect of players they could be like the window company "you know I say you buy one, you get one free".........

The only thing I can think of is that Taylor has seen something in training to suggest he can a better job for us floating between the right side and up front. Aren't you one of those that go to watch training? Have you seen anything in the way Taylor sets up teams in practive to explain?
.
The one part of the quote that stood out for me is, "there is somebody I’m looking at and I think it would help the front two". Front two? Don't we have four strikers that need help? Or does he mean the 'player' is to create the chosen front two with more chances?

I wish you'd "BOGOF" (like the window company also says)!!!.
By the way, Coral aren't the ones that in the advert you are referring to; That's 'Safestyle'!

Maybe you have been on another planet for the past few years skyblogger. If not, why do you choose to sarcastically criticise the budget available to PT. The chairmen -particularly Julian Rhodes and his family- have done their financial best to provide money for the Team over the years. If you think more money should be going into the budget then what have YOU done to help increase it? We can all post immature criticisms and side-swipe the Chairmen based on ignorance of what the difficulties are in funding the Club. The Chairmen have said they will sell their shares in the Club without taking a profit from their investment if there are any buyers -interested?. I can't understand the criticism of people -both City supporters- who have put their money where their mouth is.
