A superb century by Hasan Patel was not enough for Mount as their Dales Council League title ambitions suffered a blow at the hands of Hepworth Idle.

Mount had looked assured of the DIVISION A championship and appeared in control after restricting their opponents to a modest 181 (Phil Drake 53), Patel taking 4-48.

But another 20-point win looked a mile off as five Mount wickets fell for just seven runs, with skipper Dave Matthews eventually taking 7-24 as Mount slipped to 81-9.

With nothing to lose, number six batsman Patel then peppered the surrounding boundaries on his way to 136 not out.

Unfortunately he ran out of partners 11 runs short, young Jordan Moore claiming the final wicket when two more Patel sixes would have secured the win.

Meanwhile, Baildon put the final nail in Pudsey Congs’ coffin as they lost by 25 runs and were condemned to relegation.

Majid Hussain (47) steered Baildon to 189-9 and this looked an achievable target as Ikky Zaman whacked 62 for Congs.

But his side could not build on a total of 110-4 at this point and were eventually all out for 163 (M Wildsmith 5-43). Another unforeseen result saw second-placed Farnley Hill meet their nemesis at Shipley Providence as Saqib Mir’s 6-35 helped dismiss them for exactly 100.

Shipley, who are not yet safe from relegation, took 23 overs for the loss of four wickets to reach the target.

Second-bottom Hawksworth picked up 20 welcome points after beating Crompark by 81 runs, even after Ian Eccleshall’s 6-34 restricted them to 183-8 (R Bahul 70).

Only 19 points separate positions seven to 11, with Rodley’s ten-wicket win over New Wortley (108) keeping them mid-table. Savile Stars lost ground on DIVISION B leaders Hyde Park after Drighlington forced a six-wicket win, Martin Douglass (4-19) and Aidan Dunne (4-39) dismissing them for 93 (Rifat Kiani 51).
