Lee St Hilaire has tipped Vinny Finigan to soar in Super League – as long as the Bulls flyer can keep his feet on the ground.
The 20-year-old winger has scored four tries in two senior games after joining the first-team set-up just three weeks ago and should keep his place for Sunday’s clash with Catalans.
But St Hilaire has warned there is still plenty of hard work ahead if Finigan’s obvious potential is to be realised.
“At 20 years old he’s come in a bit late but if he applies himself and does the right things away from the training camp, I reckon he’s a player for the future,” said Bradford’s acting head coach.
“He’s got something about him but he needs to put a frame on because he’s a bit lightweight at the moment.
“Vinny’s quicker than what you’re seeing but I think he’s scared of making the error of trying to take someone on the outside and getting thrown into touch.
“I’d rather he gets thrown into touch than not have a go, to be fair.”
Centre Michael Platt played inside Finigan at Craven Park and admits it’s impossible not to be impressed by the impact the youngster has had.
“We didn’t know that much about Vinny because he’s only been training with us for a few weeks,” said Platt.
“He was given his chance because of the situation we’re in and he’s holding down a part-time job at Tesco while facing players who are earning up to a quarter of a million pounds a year.”

If he gets tackled, he gets tackled...but like you said Gumshoe, that comes with experience in a match situation. My only question is where has he been all season? We've needed a finisher all season and only now, when we're already out of it, does he get a chance.

Shows why you will never be a head coach St H with a dopey comment like that, he isn't scared like Sheriffe, it is purely naivety and inexperience and only TWO games!! He has done it plenty of times in the reserves and will I feel in the first team given the opportunity and the ball to do it with. On another point, Worrincey was at Halifax last night with Greg Eastwood from Leeds, hopefully Worrincey there to watch team he could be with next season! Cracking game with a Origin style brawl at the end!! Bulls could do lot worse than to grab Royston and Paterson for our squad for next year, I would play them in front of quite a few of our first teamers!

As he has done in his time at the club, Mac stuck with players who were clearly not good enough and not doing their job whereas if he had given a few of them a chance earlier then maybe like Whitehead, Addy etc Vinny could have been a regular first teamer at this stage. Guaranteed other clubs like Wigan and Saints would have tried it and if worked then stuck with it!!

Haitch, He meant that he hadn’t started properly training with the Bulls till he was 20 – not that 20 was late to get into the first team. Most clubs pick up kids as young teenagers so that when they get into the first team they have been with the club for many years. Finigan has only recently started training with us. I think that is what he meant.

interesting quotes from willie mason today as he wants to head to super league. there are 5 clubs interested. hull kr, giants, dragons, bulls, and salford.
it says a lot when he has dismissed bulls, salford, and catalans saying that he doesnt want to join a team likely to loose by 30 -40 points every week!!!!

The club need to get back on track for goodness sakes, not inviting the biggest loud mouth and most disruptive player in the world to come and play for us for 2-years! The first thing Brian Smith did at the Roosters when he took over was told Willie Mason to pack his bags...if the Messiah doesn't want him, then that should be enough for us to steer clear.

With all due respect Adey, to call a player who has played around 30 tests for Australia "over rated" is way off the mark. He may be all the other things in the way of being disruptive but over rated never. Surley for a huge man he is one of the most mobile props the game has seen. "Big Willie" though has muckied his ticket with his antics over the years. Let's hope we forget all about bringing ageing Aussies over and let Potter do his stuff HIS WAY.
