Peter Taylor is homing in on another striker who can offer City something “different”.
With injuries causing a concern, Taylor wants to bolster resources up front ahead of the big kick-off at Shrewsbury on August 7.
He decided against offering a contract to Southport’s Chris Simm after the Essex tour and is pushing to bring in someone else on loan – a deal that could go through this week.
Taylor said: “I still think we can do with another different forward. You’re always looking to improve in that area and hopefully I’m getting a bit closer on that one.”
Taylor has also spoken to the board about signing right back Lewis Hunt, who played in the four friendlies on tour.
The former Wycombe defender would seem a natural back-up for Simon Ramsden if City can persuade him to move north.
“We are still trying on that one,” added Taylor. “If I’m honest, getting in a right back and another forward are the two main areas that would help us.”
Meanwhile, David Syers has been given longer to impress City after his injury against Canvey Island a week ago. The former Farsley and Harrogate midfielder’s tour was cut short when he damaged his ankle, forcing him to miss the final games against Ashford and Chelmsford.
But Taylor insisted that Syers remains in his thoughts and will be given the time to prove himself.
He added: “David is having treatment at the moment but he’s still with us. We’re still looking at him and he’s shown some good things.
“I think he will have a chance of training again next week.”

it was a thought for discussion.
according to the rules it appears that premiership teams have to name a 25 man squad of which 8/9 have to be "home grown players over the age of 21" Note home grown not youth !
So for instance Arsenal have only 6 home grown over 21s so will only be able to name a squad of 23 senior players and chelsea only have 4 home grown playesr so will have a squad of only21 senior players.
It does, therefore, appear that this is an encouragement for a certain number of home grown younger players to be included but those that are on the fringes and not included:what is their position going to be?
Additionally it could well be that some clubs will not be able to include some established and expensively bought players:how are they going to get first team football.
it seems to me that the new rule for the premiership may open some more doors for players to be shipped out on loan but................. there is an argument against this.
It will be interesting to see what the squads are and who is included and who is excluded with those being excluded being left in limbo?

So Chelsea and Arsenal will have more home grown players that you think!

As as aleady been said, homegrown is any player that has been with the club for 3 years by the time they are 21. There will be lots of kids they can deem home grown, and they won't be all English.

WHO SAID ANYTHING ABOUT THEM HAVING TO BE BRITISH/ENGLISH?NOT ME!!! SO PLEASE DON'T HAVE A GO AT ME: Trying to pick an argument with me over something which I did not say. Apologises would be appropriate but doubtful if it is forthcoming.
CESC FABREGAS is a home grown player but Arsenal are still light on such players.
So where is the Daily Mail report inaccurate on this issue and on what basis: The t and a via it's newsdesk have made errors of fact!
The fact is that there are going to be some clubs with depleted squads and some clubs with excess players who cannot be accomodated in the squad.
I think Bellamy may be one player at risk for example and there will be loads of kids either British or not who fail to make it into the squads announced shortly.

We all look forward to this mystery signing.Of course "something different" could be someone who has not played for Peter Taylor at Wycombe and/or Stevenage.

Can we do any deals with premiership teams for loanees on the basis they are kept fit and playing whilst contracted wages are being met by the parent club.
It would be great to think that this could be done or is this one step too far at present?
