Bradford Ladies Cricket Club's first match of the season got off to a promising start with a five- wicket haul for Shivanie Patel.
Hers was the stand out performance in a solid bowling and fielding display on a bitterly cold day at Beverley Cricket Club.
The home team were bowled out for 83, and Patel's figures of five for nine from 7.4 overs deserved to be on the winning team.
Bradford’s batting didn’t live up to their bowling, however and, despite a last-gasp 22-run partnership between Sanam Iqbal and Halima Khan, a number of early run outs and some excellent fielding from Beverley contributed to Bradford being bowled out 12 runs short of their target.
Bradford Ladies' next match is on Sunday against Leeds New Farnley at Thornton CC.
Any girls or women interested in playing cricket can come to practice at Queensbury CC any Wednesday from 6.30pm.
