Brighouse Town go into a tough away fixture on Saturday looking for the three points that will keep them on top of Kool Sport Northern Counties East League Division One.
Town continued their recent good form with a fine win over promotion-chasing Staveley MW last Saturday. However, Leeds Carnegie won one of their games in hand in midweek to cut Town’s lead to just two points.
Saturday's opponents are 20 points adrift of Town but manager Mark Brier knows a trip to the Scunthorpe area to take on Barton Town Old Boys will not be easy. One positive though is Brighouse’s recent goal tally.
“I’m quite pleased with the way things have been going,” said Brier after last weekend’s 3-1 victory. That meant his side had rattled in 21 goals in their last half-dozen league games, a baker’s dozen in their last three fixtures.
“The only disappointment last Saturday was that our keeper Reece Richardson didn’t get a clean sheet. It was the last minute when Staveley scored their one and only goal.
“We want to stay out on front but we can only do what we can do. There is a still all to play for. We are still top but some clubs have games in hand - we know that and that’s why some things are out of our hands.
“But if you had asked me before the season if I would like to be in this position, with the points on the board, at this stage, I would have said yes, no doubt about it.”
