Daley hoping match-winning strike will be first of many

Omar Daley banished a year’s injury hell with a wonder strike after being told: It’s time you scored more.

The Jamaican’s first goal since recovering from a snapped cruciate sealed City’s 2-1 victory over Aldershot, the first time they have clinched successive home wins all season.

And Daley revealed how Peter Taylor wants him to become a regular on the scoresheet.

He said: “The gaffer reckons a player of my standard should be averaging a goal every three games.

“He wants me to get in the box and be in and around the ball and then things will just fall for me. I don’t mind having a target because I need to push on and hopefully my luck will turn.”

Daley first returned two months ago but admitted it has been a struggle to get back to form after such a lengthy absence.

“I thought I could come back and just run past defenders straight away but it’s not that easy.

“The reality has hit me just how hard it is when you’ve had this big injury and it takes time.

“But I just hope these niggles and injuries stop coming now and I can get going again.”

Daley played 65 minutes before coming off as a precaution after getting kneed in his right thigh.

Taylor said: “It’s a tricky one with someone who’s been out so long because you never know whether to start him or not. But I thought he did very well.

“I’m really pleased for Omar because he’s always got a smile on his face. He’s a very good player and it’s taken a lot of hard work to get him back.”

But skipper Simon Ramsden suffered a calf injury that will rule him out of next week’s trip to Hereford.

Taylor praised City’s character for bouncing back from going an early goal down.

He added: “It was a poor start and the crowd started getting at the players a touch but in some ways that might have helped.

“We scored a really good goal to get back and then an even better one to go in front.

“The team are working hard and I can only give them credit. They haven’t had such a good season and we’ve got to get some results to win a bit of pride back.”

Daley started and Daley scored. Another wild myth quashed then!!!!

Who were those that claimed Daley 'was not a Taylor type of player' and 'wouldn't get any games under Taylor'????

Don't you feel foolish now!!!!
As I have said before, stick to the facts or give an opinion, but stop these stupid rumours claiming they are fact!

Wel done Omar. It was a cracking strike and a decent all-round performance. I still don't understand how you got booked when you were clearly brought down in the area. Diving, my 4R5E. It was a clear penalty and yet another poor decision from the officials.

Waynus. I agree with the 1st part of your post above. The bit about the dive, I can only assume that you had a different view to me. It was a shocking dive, me and the people around just laughed out loud and all agreed that he should have been booked. Maybe he should have been booked twice, once for diving and once for it being such a bad dive.

He dived like a dolphin mate. Otherwise a good performance: great goals from both Daley and Hanson. Things are looking up, but don't lets be mean about Bouldings departure. he did OK at first but seemed a lightweight really. How did he score so many for Mansfield?

He was running in full flow towards where I sit. He was definitely brought down and if you looked at the reaction of their player, he didn't even argue. He looked a very relieved man afterwards.

Hope it shows it tonight on the Football League Show, but to me, it looked a very poor decision.

I wasn't able to get to the match, but what are you talking about - this is totally Swallow/Summer etc? Daley's been trying to score one of those for three seasons. Give me the facts that makes Daley a good player and I'd be happy to hold up my hand. I make it 80 starts for City, 10 goals and 9 assists. A fast (and exciting?) player.......... with very little footballing nouse and who often makes horrendous howlers in front of goal. It wouldn't surprise me if this is PT talking the guy up ready to put him in the shop window when he's fully fit...

Keefluarr, you are totally wrong. Daley scored an excellent goal so he must be a great player who PT will undoubtedly build his whole team around....

Let's face it, Daley is capable of occasional flashes of brilliance but in the main; he does not bring enough to the team. That is of-course just my opinion but for every wonder goal he scores; he will make a pigs ear of ten other chances (like the dive (yes Waynus, the dive!) in the second half).
