Parsley hopes worst is over for Celts

It may be a new year but the worries and concerns that threatened the very existence of Farsley Celtic have not disappeared with 'Old Father Time'.

The financial situation that forced the club into administration before the season began has followed the Celts into 2010.

The board and staff are still working fervently behind the scenes, along with the local council, to bring the club through their troubles.

Farsley manager Neil Parsley would like to be concentrating purely on running the team but has been involved in football all his working life and knows it is not as straightforward as that.

“We are not alone in having difficulties and we won’t be the last club to suffer administration or the ten- point penalty,” said Parsley.

“There are negotiations ongoing between the administrators and Farsley Celtic’s solicitors regarding the future of the club.

"The sale of land belonging to the club and planning permission on it is still being discussed by the authorities.

“We hear various rumours but no-one knows how it will all pan out because there are so many factors to consider. The same things may be said about Portsmouth and Notts County.

“Clubs at a higher level are not immune to money troubles - no business in the world is in these uncertain times.

"Northwich Victoria are in our division and trying to overcome a ten-point deduction on the playing side like ourselves, and you can’t overlook the situation at clubs like King's Lynn, who have gone to the wall.

“Even at the top end with the really big boys - such as Liverpool and Manchester United - there is uncertainty and potential crippling debt.

“Our supporters have been brilliant, and we wish there were more locals like them. They can rest assured that our president John Palmer will do everything in his power, at a huge personal cost, to ensure this football club remains at Throstle Nest and serves the community.

“He has done his level best so far, culminating in his forming a consortium and making an offer he hopes will take the club out of administration.

"Nothing is finalised yet, so the speculation will continue, but I hope Farsley Celtic is through the worst and has a long future ahead.”
