Right on Cue
Bradford snooker champion Ilyas Khan, from Cuedos Snooker Club, progressed to the second round of the Bradford Championships with a hard-fought 4-3 victory against Manningham Ward’s James Fisher.
Khan’s clubmate Sajid Khan edged a close encounter by the same score against 2009 runner-up Alex McCann of Wibsey Liberal Club.
Shipley Club’s Michael Sharp beat Shafiq Bashir (Cuedos) 4-2, Tanveer Mohammed (Manningham Ward) won 4-1 against Shab Ditta (Cuedos), Andy Papaiacovou (Cuedos) progressed thanks to a 4-0 victory over Dave Tolson (Cue Gardens) and Manningham’s Mark Hirst won 4-0 against Paul Rawlings (Great Horton Cons).
In the snooker pairs, Richard Hagerty and Roy Beckford (Calverley) ground out a 3-2 win over Paul Young and Steve Moore (Eccleshill Vic Cons), as did Martin Unsworth and Andy Briggs (Shipley Cons) against N Brewster and M Taylor (Low Moor Club), and Gareth Green and Damian Wilks over Dean Parker and Paul Wood (Laisterdyke WMC). Other results included:

The draw was expected to be made this week for both competitions and details will be sent out immediately to all players.
The next round of the Flexprint Services-sponsored Hey’s Trophy starts next Thursday, with second legs to be played on January 28. The ties are:
Undercliffe Cricket B v Upper Bolton Cons B; Harold Club A v East Bowling Unity; Bradford Irish Club v Manningham Ward A; Clayton Rugby A v Laisterdyke WMC B; Laisterdyke WMC A v West Bradford Bowling Club B; Northcote Cons v Little Horton Unity; Tong Libs A v East Ward Labour Club; Eccleshill Vic Cons A v Queensbury Cons B.
In addition to this, teams that lost their ‘first’ match in the Hey’s Trophy are eligible to play in the Hopkinson Plate, which also starts next Thursday.
