Oakworth cyclo-cross ace Tom Moses completed his preparations for this weekend’s National Championships with third spot in a Notts & Derby League event.
The Team Wallis CHH junior was just ten seconds behind three times national senior champion Nick Craig (Scott UK).
Moses was also pipped to second spot by arch-rival Dan McLay, the Leicestershire-based Hargroves Cycles rider.
Just inches separated the junior duo on the line and that rivalry is expected to continue at the weekend when the National Championships are staged over two days at Sutton Park in Birmingham.
While Moses opted not to ride the Yorkshire Points Series event on Sunday, McLay made the trip north once again.
He took second spot behind Preston’s Ian Bibby in round eight of the series at Centre Vale Park in Todmorden.
Otley’s Adela Carter (Crosstrax) was again the fastest of the women and underlined the form which has seen her secure the Yorkshire Series title with one round remaining.
JD Cycles Ilkley competitor Ed McParland took the honours in the youth race ahead of Ribble Valley CRC’s Tom Armstrong, who held off another Oakworth rider, Joe Moses (Bronte Wheelers), for second place.
This weekend’s national title race will see Keighley’s Chris Young battling for the veterans over-45s title on Saturday, while his son Paul will be competing in the juniors race on Sunday afternoon.
Carter will be aiming for a podium finish in a quality field in the women’s race, with Bradford Olympic-Paul Milnes RT’s Hannah Shenton also riding.
