Spen Victoria rewarded with Priestley Cup final

Spen Victoria have been chosen as the venue for the Sovereign Health Care Priestley Cup final for the first time.

The 2010 decider will be played at Spen Lane on Sunday, August 29, and is recognition for the excellent way the club staged this season’s Sovereign Health Care Priestley Shield final.

In choosing Spen Victoria, to host the Priestley Cup final the JCT600 Bradford league’s management board have underlined their determination to establish a second venue alongside Bradford & Bingley’s Wagon Lane ground that is able and willing to host the match.

They are at pains to point out that the problems that Bingley experienced at this season’s final with their outfield, wicket and bare earth near the newly-laid pylons were not factors in their decision.

Spen Victoria have gained considerable experience of handling big matches after hosting the Priestley Shield finals of 2005 and 2009, the Crowther Cup finals of 2004-06 and the 125th anniversary Heavy Woollen Cup final in 2008.

Spen Victoria cricket chairman Derek Warriner said: “This is a great honour for our club. We are thrilled to have been chosen and the planning starts now.”

The management board have also announced that Keighley’s Lawkholme Lane ground will be the venue for the Sovereign Health Care Priestley Shield final.

Hosting the match on August 8 is recognition for all the hard work Keighley have put in to continually improving their ground.
