Bulls plan to reach Peak fitness

For the second year running, the Bulls are shunning the sunshine for a bit of good old Yorkshire grit.

Steve McNamara has decided against going abroad for warm-weather training and instead his squad are heading up into the hills.

The Bulls departed for Ribblehead in the Yorkshire Dales yesterday to take on the Three Peaks and do some vital team bonding.

Apart from Matt Orford, who is currently waiting on his visa application, all of the players will take part in a full day of hiking and activities during a two-night stay.

“The trip’s important for a couple of reasons,” explained McNamara.

“First and foremost, we haven’t quite got the whole group together yet but we’re there or thereabouts and we’re going away so the new players and the existing players can get to know each other a bit better.

“We go out there in the hills and anyone who’s been out there in the peaks knows what it can be like at this time of year!

“We get some walking into us and we’ll also do a little bit of social. It’s an opportunity for the first time in pre-season we can get together as a group and go on a bit of a trip with each other.

“We’ve got some little things planned for them when they get out there but it’s really a couple of days away from the normal training environment to spend some time with each other.

“The walking is tough, there’s no two ways about it, but when you’re out there walking for hours on end, you talk to each other and get to know each other a lot better.

“We enjoyed the experience last year. It’s a fantastic venue and a great place for us.”

I would have thought the headline would been "Bulls have Talked the Talk" now they will "Walk the Walk"
Matt Orford is probably thanking the Immigration Visa Agency for being so Bureaucratically pedantic. I hope along with the main coaching staff that Stuart Duffy & Ryan Duckett are included :-)

macca decided not to go warm weather training, spanglish,( he might suffer from the sun. nice area to be in, bloody horrible if weather turns though, and thats summer. my lad says it was snowing in qbury and hfax this w/e, so whats it likely to do in north pennines. mind you good way to get aussies acclimatised to our weather.

did my warm weather training earlier today, now off out to mingle and build some team SPIRIT. those three masted ships, the refrigerated ones, are calling, "victoria, victoria"lol

Strange to see Macca says they have gone back to the hills because they enjoyed it last year.
I would have thought whatever they did last year they would have been looking to change it 'cos it didn't work.

my thoughts exactly !
there is also the consideration of cost which does not appear to have been mentioned, the Hills are obviously a cheap option, though if the money is not there you have to work with what you have. dont much envy them though give me the sun shine of lanzarote any day over a winters day at Ingleborough ! just looked on the ingleborough webcam looks foggy and bleeding freezing!!

Short memory Haitch. What didn't work last year was lack of pre season matchs, thanks to the RFL and the weather, the Bulls were left badly underdone, This time you could say the Bulls may be slightly overcooked for the start of SL

Security word much-rock

A full day of hiking instead of a full week of intensive warm weather training where they can practice for long hours on dry patches.

Good choice that is.

Worked a treat last year it did.

Oh hang on a min, it was the cancelled friendly that left us underdone...Not the actually training that we had done. LMAO.

I see Garbage mouth is getting his facts wrong as usual.
The two big hit outs cancelled were HKR thanks to the RFL and Quins due to weather. The two earlier ones against Whitehaven and Dewsbury went ahead.

I thought the HKR game was a friendly but the Harlequins was a super league fixture, where we would have probably taken a beating anyway.
Have to agree with the criticism about the warm weather training. We have lost virtually half the squad from last season and brought in 6 new players. They need to be out on the pitch together as much as possible before the start of the season.

Actually douchebag, we started the season on RND 1 just like every other SL team except Leeds, so the crappy excuse of a cancelled friendly doesn't stack up.

They are the facts.

You dont half come up with some poop in your defense of Macca.

A cancelled friendly, Bulls always start slow..whatever next?

don't believe it was steve mac who made the decision not to go abroad to the sun. proberbly a financial decision from the top.
I agree with ralphie . the more time that can be spent on a training ground getting used to each other with ball in hand, the better it is for the team. thats the main side of the lads they need to know. social bonding will come later.
Maybe its because orford's not here they may think it's not worth doing field work without him. If that is the case we'll be up the creek if he gets injured.

According to this report it was Macca who decided against going to Teneriffe or wherever it is.

they certainly managed a lot of social bonding round the bar on Sunday night at the meet the players do. onlythe Aussies seemed prepared to talk to the supporters, the Brits were all as miserable as sin! Hope they get nice and cold in the hills. HA HA

I don't think I have a short memory Blotto. The preparations culminated in a disastrous start to the season. You may wish to single out the RFL bungle as the reason but you are obviously in the minority with that view.
For me, telling the lads they are not going to go to Teneriffe but are instead to traipse around the upper Pennines is not going to go down well with the players. Telling them they are to follow that with a trip to Whitehaven in FEBRUARY and I think the club have done a good job of knocking the stuffing out of the lads before the season has even started.
Add further another farce at Dews in ankle deep mud and you really start to get the picture..there are many better winter grounds.
Further misery is then piled upon the players as they see all around them being rewarded with trips away the sun. I agree with previous comments that this looks like cost cutting. It will suit Mr Hood but if he treats his staff in this way how can he expect commitment? (Never forget Clawson gave the lads the final insult when he joked he would have them hauling bags of rocks on their back..what sort of 'management' is that?)

Dont want to seem churlish but the earlier edition definitely said,The squad have decided not to go warm weather training,so obviously it has been changed. However who is bothered as long as we have a 200% better season than last year.

Sorry, Douchebag.

Lot's of people use terminology such as douchebag.

Why don't you comment on the article for a change, instead of being a massive douche?

And which 'all around them' are being rewarded with trips to the sun? Certainly not Leeds because they have cancelled their's because of 'cost cutting'. And not Hull KR for the same reason. And not Castleford and not Wakefield and not Saints and not Crusaders and not FC . Not sure about Hudds and Wire. So all their players will be filled with misery as well then!!

Haitch, I donn't reckon our Aus recruits need any further hot weather trainning somehow.
Reckon the three peaks will provide a more relevent climatising for 'em.
Anyone who has been in the Forces as I have do similar workouts/bonding weekends, ie Dartmoor in middle of winter, roughing it. Tough but effective.
As for the Dewsbury 'mud bath' ...
you have a point Haitch, but can anyone tell me where its set in marble that all pre-season friendly's have to be 'away games'??
I'm sure the Rams would be more than happy to play at Odsal for a change.
