Orford signing to be confirmed this week

Matt Orford should be confirmed as a Bradford Bulls player this week.

The Aussie scrum half agreed a move to Odsal last week but the deal has been challenged by one-time Bulls target Chris Walker.

Former Gold Coast star Walker claims he had a two-year contract with Bradford wrapped up before Orford assumed the club’s final import quota spot for 2010.

But it is believed Walker’s contract was not registered with the Rugby Football League and there is not expected to be any problems in completing Orford’s registration.

The RFL yesterday confirmed they were looking into the case but could not provide a timescale for the final decision.

Meanwhile, Orford is champing at the bit to join up with his new team-mates and put a difficult year firmly in the past.

Expectations had been high at Manly in 2009 following their NRL Grand Final success the previous year but boardroom wrangling and power struggles hampered the club’s campaign.

The Sea Eagles finished fifth in the NRL and were thumped 40-12 in the first round of the play-offs by eventual champions Melbourne, who they had defeated in the 2008 Grand Final.

"I’m sort of at that age where maybe four years ago I would’ve let it get to me but it comes as part and parcel of the game," said Orford, who had shouldered much of the blame from critics.

"As playmaker, you are the fall guy when things go wrong. When I was younger, I took it to heart but when you get older and wiser you learn to turn it into positive energy.

"It’s not about proving anyone wrong but you feed off that and keep working on your game.

"If you’re not doing something right, it’s not the critics you are worried about but your coach and your team-mates. You don’t want to let them down.

"It was a rough year on and off the field so it’s going to be a fresh start and I’m looking forward to it that way. I want to keep improving my game and hopefully win some trophies with the Bulls. That’s the holy grail."

* Bradford Bulls fans will have their first chance to meet many of the club's overseas imports on Sunday at the Grattan Stadium.

The club are holding a race evening, and all the Bulls players are due to take part (4pm). There is also a hot buffet of turkey, stuffing and roast potatoes.

There will also be sponsorship opportunities for individuals and companies.

Tickets (£5) can be obtained from the Bulls' ticket office.

i would be happier if the RFL would put a time scale on it. we need closure on this issue ASAP so that we can get on with pre-season!
i hope orford gets to finf that holy grail with a CC & GF combo!!

Nice positive words from Ox but a bit confusing from the T&A. How can you have headlines which say he will become a Bulls player this week and then say the RFL have put no time scale on it?

exactly, it seems that it is still not quite the done deal, Seems Orford is confident that he is still coming but everything is on hold pending the RFL decision, so it would seem the T & A might be jumping the gun a bit with the headline. though i hope it is indeed correct!!

Hi Steampig. I think its a 'done deal' alright. All transfers have to be signed off by the RFL. There would have to be a real 'nasty' rear it's head for the RFL to refuse. Remember the RFL sanctioned the Harris deal. It was whino's who took out the private law suit. My guess is the Ox is a Bull but whether it will be this week?? I can't see how the T&A would know this.

maybe the RFL stance will be to let it go through and to leave it up to the Bulls to deal with any litigation at a future date as with the Harris debacle , though hopefully the legal position is much stronger this time round.

told you not to jump the gun aitch,
So there is some doubt about this!
the RFL would not be looking into it if it was all clear cut. and to say they can't put a time on it suggests there could be a problem. hope for the sake of the team there is no problem, we'll be up the creek and right with no recognised first choice s/h. here's hoping it's ok.

Hey I said we hadn't been insulted once and up pops 'franklyn'! Where the h*ll did you come from?.
Listen mate I'm not jumping the gun. The RFL treated the Harris case in exactly the same way. They will only intervene if Bulls have contravened RFL rules otherwise the registration goes through and it's up to Walkers agents to put their money where their mouths are.

IF it does all go wrong, I wonder if bulls have a plan B. anyone any idea's. trying to find a good s/h who would be available, and have the ability to be a leader will be a large task. they just ain't about.

What do you mean 'it's turned out they could be right'?
So long as the Bulls haven't signed AND SUBMITTED a contract with Walker and Ox is clean he get's registered. Simple as. The ONLY way Walker and his crew could take it further would be as LEEDS did in the Harris case and Ox WOULD be a Bulls player, regardless.

frank lyn, why two names, undecided what you are.
i agree Haitch, bulls have done nothing wrong,as per rfl regs. as i keep saying the ones who b*****s it up are the agent and walker, eggs basket, springs to mind. agent is a grub as they say out here, mind you so are most agents, offiah et al. walker has had problems off the field through drink, 5-0 involved more than once.
couldn't resist the dig at ????????

well aitch & viking, glad you two seem to know all about this contract. even more than the RFL apparrently. they are having to check out just whats gone on.
i really hope your both not left with egg on your faces. that would be such a shame.

the rfl regs say for a contract to be valid it has to be registered with them. if contract had been registered walker's signing would have been announced in the media. kearney's contract registered with rfl, they came together bulls obviously saw a problem with walker. francis have a look on bbc 606 bulls forum, re walker and rfl. or try reading aussie press ie fox sport, courier mail.

We don't need to know anything about the contract as there isn't one. All the respected sources say no contract has been lodged with the RFL so that's it!!
Hi viking keep soaking up that sun mate!! Hope it's going well so that you can keep feeding us the latest from down there.

I hope all is ok, but if not I'm sure there'll be one or two other half-backs around the world who might jump at the chance of an £840k, 3 year deal - that is big money in any continent.

Birds off back to the NRL, word is to the Titans, so off you go Walker,France needs yer mate.
As for this new section that the RFL added to the players contract in early '09, stipulating a contract was only vallid if it was registered with them;LOL
Typical RFL gaff. The gaff being it was rudy obvious that a contract wasn't worth twopence if it wasn't registered anyway, but in putting it in black and white drew the attention of all Clubs legal buffs, who would obviously advise that you could offer terms to a dozen players and register just a couple.
As I understand it that is what the Bulls have done,.. Sent Walker a 'proposed' agreement (which Walker took to be a contract).
The RFL need to relook at the section again but they CAN NOT now do any other than register Orford
