Woods still seeking first win as title race becomes tighter still


Unlucky Bolton Woods are still searching for their first Bradford Sunday Alliance League Premier Division victory of the season.

They must have thought they were on the way to breaking their duck when Matt Addy scored an early penalty at West Bowling.

Damian Melvyn equalised for the hosts but Andy Harland fired the visitors back in front and Addy scored another spot-kick to give Woods a two-goal cushion at the interval.

Corry Larvin pulled a goal back early in the second half and the hosts then took command, with Scott Marsden on the mark twice within five minutes to put West Bowling in front for the first time.

Ten minutes from time, Marke Shoote hit the fifth to wrap up victory and take Bowling within three points of reigning champions Buttershaw White Star at the top.

Clayton Orient also kept up the pressure with a hard-earned win in difficult conditions at Thornton, clinching victory through strikes from Andrew Kerr, Dean Louch and Liam Serrant.

Relay Recruitment had the better of a five-goal encounter against Ventus Sports, who finished with nine men. Clawing their way back from a two-goal deficit, Relay won with strikes by Abbos and Amir Sadeshian and a third from Usman Shiek.

Prospect Rovers remain top of Division One after winning a five-goal thriller against Seven Stars.

Despite going behind in the first half to strikes from Paul Kelly and Jonathan Miles, the leaders showed their pedigree with goals by Alan Morley, Karl Butler and Danny Carr. Allerton climbed the table thanks to a 4-3 triumph against Ventus United, with the help of an own goal and strikes by Mick Hellawell and Ben O’Melia.

Cuedos Rangers moved into second place with a convincing win over Oakworth Juniors.

Skipper Bryan Waddington put the hosts in front, only for Oakworth’s Patrick King to equalise. The visitors took the lead through James Marshall but Cuedos dominated the second half, with Mathew Penn grabbing a brace before Daniel Duckworth scored to seal the points Buttershaw Celtic moved into second place in Division 1A with a 6-2 win at Bolton2 WMC.

George Hotel beat Bolton Woods Social 1-0 and Manningham claimed three vital points thanks to a 3-1 win against Thackley Shoulder. Royal FC moved away from the lower reaches of Division 1B with a victory over Ravenscliffe, who took an early lead.

The visitors recovered to lead at the break after goals from Ben Collier and Chris Caton, before an Oliver Serrant strike and an own goal gave them a 4-1 cushion.

Ravenscliffe pulled it back to 4-3 but Adam Hargreaves sealed the points ten minutes before the end.

A Chris McManne hat-trick allowed Great Northern to continue their excellent start to the season with a convincing 6-1 victory at St Georges.

Two goals each from Chris Hawker and Dave Elvidge gave Bolton3 Bull a 4-2 victory over Gaping Goose.

Bolton Junction Inn enjoyed a 5-3 win against Saltaire Rangers to move into second place in the section.
