Horrific injuries threaten Lloyd career

Guiseley star Lloyd faces a third operation to fix leg Guiseley wing back Anthony Lloyd is still in hospital awaiting a third operation on the leg he injured at Kendal Town a week ago before he can go home.

The marauding 25-year-old, who began his career at Huddersfield Town as a trainee and went on to feature in a play-off final for the Terriers as they won promotion, faces a miserable Christmas, possibly on crutches, and then a long haul along the road to fitness.

Lions boss Steve Kittrick said: “It is not looking good for Anthony because the injury is even worse than we first feared.”

Kittrick stopped short of saying Lloyd may never play again but from his comments it is obvious that the club feel it is a career-threatening injury.

“He has been transferred from Lancaster Hospital to BRI but he hasn’t even been given a release date,” said the Guiseley chief.

“He has had two ops and there is another to come to get his leg right so he can go home to his family.

“It was a mess when our physio went onto the pitch but it turned out that what we expected after that initial shock was not even half of it. There is more damage to his leg than anyone thought.

“His knee was dislocated and the cartilage is ruptured, the cruciate ligament is damaged, his ankle was also dislocated and the ligaments and tendons on that joint have ripped. It really is a very nasty injury and he is looking at a long period out.

“The thing is that it couldn’t have happened to a nicer lad. Anthony is a quality player who has been in the pro game, has a great attitude and has never given me a minute’s trouble.

“He has missed one game in his 18 months with us and that shows his ability, fitness and consistency. It is dreadful news for Anthony and for Guiseley Football Club.”
