Kopczak:Rehab is doing my head in

By the time the new season starts, Craig Kopczak will be like a tightly-coiled spring.

The frustrated prop can only watch, being confined to rehab, as the majority of his team-mates crack on with pre-season training.

Kopczak is sidelined after suffering a knee injury during Wales’ 48-12 defeat to England last month, less than 30 minutes after scoring his first Test try.

Although there is no exact timescale on his recovery from a torn medial ligament, the 22-year-old Bulls academy product is confident of returning before the new season – and can’t wait to get started.

“It’s coming on great,” he said. “I’ve just had a few weeks resting but I’ve started my rehab now and things are progressing well. It’s looking good.

“It was a big disappointment when I suffered the injury but things happen for a reason. I’ve just got to get on with it and hopefully it’ll make me a stronger person.

“It’s doing my head in at the moment because I like to train and I like to interact with the boys.

“I’m still here and I’m still doing my best on my upper body work and obviously my rehab, so I’m interacting a lot more.

“I’ve not got a timescale as yet but I should be fine for the start of the season. I’m recovering pretty quick so hopefully things will be okay.

“I can’t wait for the start of the season.” Having enjoyed a breakthrough season this year, becoming a permanent fixture in the Bulls’ first-choice 17, Kopczak is looking to really kick on in 2010.

“I had quite a good stint last season so hopefully I can take that momentum into next year and go on to bigger and better things,” he said.

“I always set myself personal goals and my goal now is just to get my leg sorted and I’ll progress on to my other goals after that.”

And the Eccleshill-born star is equally confident about his team’s chances of improving on their showing in Super League XIV.

“We finished the back end of the season superbly so we can take that momentum into the start of the new season.

“Everyone’s upbeat and full of confidence. We’ve always had it in us, it was just a matter of applying it.

“Steve brought it out of us towards the back end of the season and he’s always been upbeat and talking positive so it’s just good to be around the club at the moment.”
