Warriors miss out in final pursuit

Wibsey Warriors’ gallant bid to reach the BARLA YORKSHIRE CUP final came to a 28-6 end at Hunslet Old Boys.

Early injuries to forwards Dean Midgley and Ross Simpson hit the Warriors hard but they still ensured their vastly experienced hosts had to work like demons to earn the right to meet Sharlston Rovers in the final at Featherstone Rovers on December 27.

Hunslet scored 28 unanswered points before Wibsey posted a late consolation try through prop forward Mark Darragh, converted by stand-off Andy Robinson.

Wyke’s tenure at the bottom of the PENNINE LEAGUE Division One table could be coming to an end if they continue to show the resolve they displayed in the 36-16 defeat at King Cross Park.

The black and whites posted three tries from Andy Russell, Aaron Priestley and Alan Binns, while Shaun Godfrey kicked two conversions.

In Division Two, Bank Top Harriers lost 44-8 at Dod-worth in atrocious conditions.

Simon Giles grabbed a brace for the Harriers, who were well served by stand-off Carl Brian and man-of-the-match James Rhodes.

Odsal Sedbergh gained a valuable point in their 18-18 Division Three clash at high flyers Littleborough. Sedge now move within striking distance of a promotion spot following tries from Jonny Ward, Jason Marshall and Graham Harrison.

Wibsey won the Division Five derby 18-6 at home to Queensbury A in a game that flowed from end to end throughout.

The Warriors broke through to go 12 points up before Bury hit back with a try in the corner from Paul Humphreys, converted by Michael Boocock.

The second half was another arm wrestle with defences on top and Wibsey posted the only try to run out narrow but worthy winners.

Rory Brooke and Kennedy Timewell were both outstanding for Bury.
