Hunt is on to find loan hitman to bolster City’s injury-ravaged attack

Stuart McCall today stepped up his hunt for attacking reinforcements.

The City chief wants a loan signing in place in time for next Saturday’s home clash with Accrington to ease the problems up front.

Gareth Evans was the only recognised senior striker on duty in the 1-1 draw with high-flying Bournemouth.

Michael Flynn was pressed into an emergency role as a forward alongside him because James Hanson and Michael Boulding had both joined Peter Thorne on the sidelines.

The loan deadline runs out on November 26 but McCall is expected to act in the next couple of days to ease the strain.

He said: “We definitely need someone who can give us something off the bench. We’re very limited at the minute to change things late on in the game going forward.

“It’s not just players in your first 11, it’s what’s underneath that. You do need to have options to change things.

“We’ve had three forwards out and then Leon Osborne gets a whack in the reserves that could put him out for two months.

“Hopefully there will be players coming back in the next couple of weeks but we just need an alternative to come on in the wide areas or down the middle in the last 15 or 20 minutes, especially at home.

“We had a couple of people in mind but one’s injured and the other has started playing for his team now so I don’t think he’d be allowed out. But we’ll look at it over the next few days and if anyone’s available we’ll look to bring them in.”

Thorne was due to rejoin training today with Hanson, who had groin and ankle trouble after the Port Vale game, expected back later in the week.

Meanwhile, City are waiting for the results on tests that Boulding has undergone to try to cure his long-standing virus.

Evans earned City a point on Saturday with his fifth goal of the season but he was also playing through the pain.

McCall added: “Evo was still feeling his toe injury but he had to play because we had no other forwards.

“Bournemouth have some very strong boys at the back but I thought Flynny gave as good as he got. We needed somebody like him up there to take the buffeting to help Evo.”
