Wakefield 3, Eccleshill United 2
The Eagles came close to an upset in the first round of the West Riding County Cup tonight as they lost out by one strike in a five-goal thriller.
Eccleshill will not now be hosting either Blue Square North outfit Harrogate Town or Goole - one of them will now visit Wakefield.
The Eagles took the lead through Ryan Wood but the home side were 2-1 up by half-time, former Farsley Celtic striker Chris Howarth getting one of the goals.
Early in the second half, Ryan Canning equalised for the visitors but the home side grabbed a 73rd-minute winner.
A prospective new manager was sitting in the stands and is expected to be confirmed as boss before Saturday’s Kool Sport Northern Counties East League Division One clash at home to Hemsworth MW.
