Liversedge 4, Maltby Main 0
Liversedge eased to a comfortable win over Maltby Main in the Kool Sport Northern Counties East League Premier Division yesterday and their margin of victory could have been even greater.
The home side created a number of chances early in the game but spurned them and only broke the deadlock just before the half-hour.
They got a free-kick on the edge of the area and Paul Walker drilled it through the wall and the keeper’s fingers.
Just four minutes later, Sedge were two goals to the good, and Walker was involved once again. He played a quick return pass to Jermaine Moyce, who turned his marker in the area and lashed home a shot.
A rapid-fire double midway through the second half saw Sedge trough to a runaway victory.
Walker spun past his man and curled a shot into the net. The final goal was a shot from debutant Jamie Wasley.
Sedge spokesman John Hewitt said: "Jamie (Wasley) used to play for our under-19s team but has been away from the club so this was his senior debut.
"Sean Regan (manager) started him in a 4-3-3 system, which was unusual but it worked very well.
"The front three were really sharp and the middle three worked very hard so the football was all pass and move. The defence were outstanding and deserved their clean sheet."
